I guess they must mean like "the way things USED to be"...when Orlando had as many as 8 country stations broadcasting in the area just 12 years ago. I don't think even Nashville or Memphis had THAT many stations.

Whether or not the QUALITY and ORIGINALITY are still there as the stations have diversified can be a viable argument for any market's audience, I'm sure.

8 country stations???

no market has had 8 stations doing country at once. back up your position if you think we're in error, but c'mon- that would've meant half the stations in town were country (?).

He's probably thinking of:

[*]K92FM
[*]B94.5
[*]98 Frog (Daytona)
[*]WHKR (Melbourne)
[*]WOGK (Ocala)
[*]WTRS (Ocala)
[*]WPCV (Lakeland)
[*]Throw in WQYK in Tampa and there's eight.

(back in the day, early 90's)

Of course, only two of those were in-market - but the rest had/have signals audible in some parts of the Orlando metro.

8 country

But he phrased it as if there were 8 in-market competitive country stations in Orlando. I believe only the first two on your list actually ever competed directly in Orlando at once- the rest compete in their own, separate non-Orlando metro markets.

I think there were a couple of "classic country" AMs in Orlando around that time. I think one was on 1080. But you're right that it would have only been that AM and the 2 FMs that were targeting Orlando.

Was there still competition with the stations, including the ones outside of O-Town?<P ID="signature">______________

FIRST OF ALL,WHEN DID ORLANDO HAV 8 COUNTRY RADIO STATIONS!?
IF YOU ARE REFERRING TO BOTH AM AND FM,THEN MAYBE(even counting
fringe areas) BUT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN MORE THAN A FEW IN ORLAND:
WWKA 92.3 FM/WPCV 97.5 FM(which is based in lakeland).
AND IF YOU LISTEN TO AM ON A CLEAR NIGHT,YOU WILL RECIEVE STATIONS
FROM FAR AWAY,POSSIBLY WSM 650 AM IN NASHVILLE/WSUN 640 AM TAMPA?
CHECK WITH OLDIESCAT..HE'll INFORM YOU WELL!!
SECONDLY: THERE IS STILL A HUGE MARKET IN ORLANDO FOR OLDIES,MUSIC
THAT YOU CAN LISTEN TO WITH YOUR KIDS,AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR
MINDS BEING RAPED BY FOUL-MOUTH VULGARITY THAT YOU HEAR ON MANY
OF THESE STATIONS SPEWING OUT THIS SEWAGE!! AND IF YOU LOOK ON THE
FM DIAL,OUR CHOICES ARE LIMITED:
WWKA 92.3 FM-COUNTRY BUT NORMAL
WCFB 94.5 FM (hey i wanna knock you up and live on welfare)SOUL.
WPYO 95.3 FM (lemme get my special k and ruffies fix)CLUB NOISE
WHTQ 96.5 FM (dude,go back in the trailer and strike up the bong)CLASSIC ROCK
WMMO 98.9 FM (i'm in the mood for whiny lesbian bitch-rock)VARIETY? BUT NO VULGARITY!

WRUM(WEBG) 100.3 FM(let's turn orlados only oldies station into a taco stand!)tropical.
WJRR 101.1FM (gather 'roud with the baby and goats blood)ALTERNATIVE
WJHM 101.9 FM (the epitomy of ignorant gang-bangers and dive-by's)URBAN
WLOQ 103.1FM(great music for relaxation)SMOOTH JAZZ
WTKS 104.1FM(not the same since garabo left) TALK/ALTERNATIVE
WOMX 105.1FM('scuse me while i wax my bmw)BUT,NOTHIN WULGAR!!THAT's NORMAL!!
WOCL 105.9FM(satan,i'm your squeeze!!)ALTERNATIVE
WXXL 106.7FM(like,we be dumb wannabes' yo!)TOP 40?
WMGF 107.7FM (a 1000.000 watt harlequinn romance novel) BUT NORMAL!
AND IF YOU CANT FIND STATIONS IN AMERICA THAT PLAY MEXICAN CRAP,THEN MAYBE
YOU SHOULD HAVE TO BUY XM,OR SIRRIUS....NOT THE AMERICANS!!!

Re: Abnormal people. What the #$%^?

SORRY,IVAN....I WAS A LITTLE VAGUE WITH THAT LINE.
IN A NUTSHELL,I MEANT THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY STATIONS IN
ORLANDO THAT PLAY VULGARITY,OR CONDONE THE "GANSTA" LIFSTYLE.
BUT BIG 100 WAS ORLANDOS ONLY OLDIES STATION,DOING WELL IN THE
RATINGS,AND CC TUNED IT INTO A TACO STAND. IMAGINE IF THIS
EVER HAPPENS TO YOUR FAVORITE STATION?
AND,NO I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE PISSED OFF AT CLEARCHANNEL FOR
DOING THIS,THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS,ALL AGES AND RACES
AND NATIONALLITIES,WHO FEEL THE SAME AS I DO,AND THIS PROVES THAT THERE
IS A LACK OF TASTE IN GOOD MUSIC,LIKE FLIPPING 100.3 TO...ILLEGAL IMMEGRANT MUSIC,
"NORMAL PEOPLE" THAT I REFERR TO ARE THE PEOPLE WHO LIKE THEIR MUSIC
FROM THE 60's AND 70's THAT HAVE ORIGINAL MUSIC....NOT THIS
CRAP WITH "SAMPLING" OTHER PEOPLES MUSIC,AND BTW:
"LIMP BIZKIT" MARYLIN MANSON" AND ANY RAPPER IS NOT MUSIC,IT's
NOISE.................ANT THAT IS NOT NORMAL!!
FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION,READ MY POST RESPONDING TO PUETORICANSOUL.

> > BRING BACK THE MUSIC FOR NORMAL PEOPLE!!!!!

THE "NORMAL PEOPLE" ARE THE ONES WHO LIKED BIG 100 AND DON't
TAKE KINDLY TO YUPPIES LIKE THOSE CLEARCHANNEL IDIOTS CLAIMING
ORLAND NEEDED ANOTHER ILLEGAL IMMEGRANT STATION. "NORMAL"
MEANS AMERICANS,AND BY THAT I MEAN PEOPLE WHO WERE BORN IN
AMERICA AND SPEAKE ENGLISH!! IF THESE MEXICANS HERE IN
ORLANDO DON't LIKE LISTENING TO AMERICAN MUSIC,THEN THEY,NOT US
THE AMERICANS.....SHOULD BE THE ONES HAVING TO BUY XM RADIOS AND PAYING
A MONTHLY CHARGE....THAT IS UNAMERICAN AND THAT,MY FRIEND IS

NOT NORMAL.

National Allianced seems to be Sirmojo

Rumba 100.3 does not transmit Mexican music. It is programmed for the large Puerto Rican population. Note, there is no such thing as an illegal Puerto Rican. Puerto Rico is a US territory. Don't take my word for it, read your grand-child's history book. But I guess it's all Mexican to SirMOJO.

I feel for the Oldies fans, but maybe Sirmojo 1956 and his white robed brothers can get the National Alliance to run that "Normal" illegal transmission on 99.1.
