RE:Sunny

Ok Batman my response.

I appreciate the olive branch. I will extend it likewise. I will admit some of my comments in the past were out of line, some were not. Rumours have circulated I know who he is,yadda yadda yada" When the day comes, maybe soon, maybe later I will state who I am. Too bad this is not a video cam site. I would love to see the look on many faces displaying how wrong they have been. That statement alone, will spark another fire. Just put it out before it gets started and get past it. Bingo is right, I enjoy my status, and he is right there is no love lost between us. So be it.I still sleep at night,so does he. I often just skip over his post. I made an exception this time due to the subject.
Hubcap Carter a man we all can agree upon was a great guy. He discovered this site, shortly before his passing. He described it as a "favorite Bar". He was then and still is right about that. We can hoist a few brews and have draggged out knocked down debates. Movie critics can get away by saying " Dukes of Hazzard is a lousy movie and I wanted my money back". We on this board are critics all the same. We in broadcasting are subjected to it continously. Is there a right way or wrong way? Yes,but everyone will come up with different interpretations, etc.
We can say someone is lousy or they are good . We can disagree on stations overall or agree. If we disagree that is where the trouble often starts. We should( Myself included) Respond in a respectful but pointed matter to illustrate our point, and not be so quick to dismiss the other with a slang term etc Or talk down to someone and gloat. Nobody on this board can say they never did that. I will do the best I can to choose my words wisely. I may slip, after all I am just as human as the rest of you, BUT I never considered myself above you in talent, know how, etc.

I have the same passion for radio as most of you do. I see radio overall as having gotten worse, with good solid talent on the beach whom I regard as a friend and adversary. I have seen talent wanting to stay in this market having to go elsewhere more frequently than in the past.I see new broadcasters with the same "fire" in their souls as I had( and still do) many years ago,but who are short 'changed by the way radio has evolved with less emphasis on originality, creativity, localism and serving it's community of license. That is not to say they are overall bad or I am envious. I am saying they are being cheated. Some do not feel they have to work their way up to a large market. They should start in the top 5. Who can blame them? See the ads? "Minimum 3 years, 2 years expereince". They had no time to cultivate their craft. They are told what to say, how to say it, what to play, when to play it. NO sense of personality,no characteristic trademark worth noting, no art of backtiming, just assembly line radio, and that's what makes me angry. NEW Talent that can carry radio further along is basically tossed aside, and then blamed if the ratings don't show success, and it wasn't their fault in most cases. That's why I speak out.

XM and Sirius, and now some on line stations are turning to talent with more than ten years expereince overall because they have horned their craft. People buy satellite not only because it's a "new toy",but because it is radio with solid talent overall, with very few exceptions. Music is heard that hasn't been played on most stations for years,or new music that needs to be heard but won't be on a station, because of its "research", is on satellite. The personalities ,and they are PERSONALITIES, bring it together. Stations should be quick to notice and not be dismissive, but local decisions, mostly, are not made anymore.

That is why I speak out the way I do. Now I will be told this is lengthy and I have strayed away from the subject. I expect that. However, I felt a lengthy explanation was necessary as to why I post. I will state again, I will try to watch my wording when I post from now on. There are some posters I will just skip past. There will be some who will disagee with what I just said,so be it as well.

Batman I will give your offer some serious thought, but it will not be overnight,or even a week. It doesn't mattter to me who you are. You are knowledgable as well and I enjoyed your earlier posts. Let's get back to that ,shall we?

Yes! Because all of the mentally retarded people that read this site are going to be offended and never come back! We all know they make up a good percentage of the readership here.

You have completely missed the point...mentally challenged people are not going to read this site, but their family members might. I guess you are just to closed minded to comprehend.

Mr. Murrow,

You talk a good game. Anybody who has a half a brain knows you're still full of BS. Maybe you should call yourself Lucifer because you certaintly know how to decieve.

Whatever the condescending term we are supposed to use this week is --- it seems that the ones who have problems with terminology are the ones who are offended by the term, not the afflicted. In other words - its about THEM and THEIR pride, and not the person actually afflicted and their pride.

Somewhere, there should be a politically correct web site with the term we are supposed to use this week, cross referenced with the term we are familiar with. Oh, and it should also be cross indexed by which groups can use a particular term, and which can't. That way, we can all keep up with the latest fashion in political "correctness".

Or maybe - we just all get sick of the condescending terms we are being forced to use by people who aren't directly afflicted. And go back to using terminology we understand.

Is it "cripple" this week - no wait - "handicapped" - no still too negative - "differently abled" - nope can't use that because it still says they are different - "wheelchair people" - nope sounds too much like street people with shopping carts - OMG! I just said "street people" is that right or is it homeless ----- BLEAH! Forget it!

I was just making a joke. I have no problem with the word "retarded". Mentally retarded is a medical term! People seem to forget that. I think people take things too seriously and most of the time it's just to have the spotlight as they "fight against the bad influences of society". Just like in politics. I personally like the term "gimp" to describe the crippled.

Re: UNCALLED FOR!!!!

I would agree, except for one point....

Mentally Retarded is ok, but to call someone a "retard", that is slang and not the same thing.
Words do make a difference. I would also agree that sometimes we are a little too PC for our own good. But, that is not the same thing as using a slang term, or name calling.

The illustration used about the "retard" was in poor taste....PERIOD!!

Don't know if you are serious or not, but all of my posts have been jokes. I am the least offended here. Most people are way too stuffy for my tastes. The fact that some folks here are so upset at a few jokes baffles me. Glad I didn't grow up in a household where laughter is evil!

And you CERTAINLY don't know how to spell. Says a lot about your intelligence, Bucky Boy!

The Batman responds

Agreed.

Let's let bygones be ... bygones, and move on.

The Batman is a LITTLE wacko at times to say the least -- so keep that in mind.

The Phantom obviously was kinder and gentler.

Thinking out loud here ... I wonder if 990 AM would be interested in "The Bat Cave" every Saturday night -- exploring the dark side of human nature, if you know what I mean -- and I think you do :).

Oh well. Alfred! Where are my keys to the Batmobile?

I'm .... Batman.
