Re: "Tombstone Territory"

After reading about the death of "Tombstone Territory" star Richard Eastham, I suddenly recalled something.

I once read somewhere that "Tombstone Territory" was produced by Frederick Ziv's company, Ziv Productions, and was the only Ziv program that was produced for network television (it aired on ABC). All of Ziv's other programs were produced for first-run syndication.

Given that "Tombstone" was on a network, I would think it has the highest production budget of any of Ziv's shows (with the possible exception of "Sea Hunt", which did a lot of location shooting).

Tombstone Territory was one of the first shows to continue
producing new episodes for syndication following its network
cancellation. ABC ran it for one season (1957-58), then it
continued in production for syndication until 1960 (Castleman
& Podrazik, "Harry and Wally's Favorite Shows").

BTW, whatever happened to the guy who played the sheriff on
that show, actor Pat Conway?

To answer my own question, he died in 1981.
Edited by bpatrick on 07/25/05 02:12 PM.

So much for Lawrence Welk and "Hee Haw" being the first two series to continue production for first-run syndication after they were cancelled by the networks.

You learn a lot at Radio-Info.com!

Even Welk and Hee Haw weren't first. After a break of
about a year in each case, Truth Or Consequences, What's
My Line?, and To Tell The Truth all resumed production for
first-run syndication, in 1966, '68, and '69 respectively.
Welk and Hee Haw made the move in '71, although there was
no time gap. Particularly in Welk's case, one week he was
on ABC; the next, in syndication--same time (or close to it),
same channel in most markets.

Several ZIV programs were made for networks "Bat Masterson" NBC, "Rough Riders" ABC, "The Aquanauts" later midseason change to "Malibu Run" CBS, "Klondike' and Acapulca" NBC and "Harbor Master" CBS/ABC
