Actually, Tom is the consummate professional. You wanna know him. I enjoyed working with him immensely.

His résumé is outstanding and his career impressive. He did mornings on full-service WTIC in Hartford and WGY in Schenectady.

Also did middays at KOMO for quite a while when it was still "full-service."

He's affable, very versatile, has great pipes, and does loads of freelance work, including, at one time, being the station voice of WOR in New York and the WOR Radio Network.

He also perhaps the last guy in the business who loves words, can pronounce nearly anything in English correctly, and does it all quietly, without fanfare or self-aggrandizement.

He's also done TV weather (with and without wig).

In other words, a real "broadcaster" in the old, good sense. The kind of guy who enriches you with his presence at the radio station, rather than being just another jerk you have to get along with.

How many colleagues can you say this about?

yaya. See my comments under best morning show thread. McCarthy deserves to be number one. He doesn't get in the way of the music, something Ichibod and Kent and Alan should take note of. They need to shut up more and play more music. McCarthy doesn't bash women like T-man, Rivers, BJ or Mitch on KJR-Am or rely on outdated wacky morning show bits like Fitz or Jackie and Bender. McCarthy is intelligent, communicates and shuts up and lets the music bring the ladies in the door. Yeah, he may underperform the station, but give him his due because he is number one with the ya ya sisterhood of older adult women, who find his deep voice sexy. Ya ya good.

I always assumed the WARM morning show was there to balance Sandusky's AM Drive offerings. When they had Mitch on KLSY one could literally go from Issaquah into downtown Seattle while ONE BREAK was running (usually long theme thing with phoner involved). Didn't think Scooby Doo was needed to solve the mystery of why THAT station was circling the drain. Figured they could have any positioning statement they wanted about music ... cuz we never heard any of it!!!!!

And see my comment in the other thread as to how Kent & Alan play more music than McCarthy. And how Ichabod plays just as much music as Spitz in the morning.
