RE: WRKO - [EDIT]

Nik, 2 for 2; I'm proud of you - [EDIT] Agree with most of it except the last paragraph.

[EDIT=inflamatory]

[EDIT]

On to your points: Ed Schultz and Rhoades do not exist in the vast public consciousness. No one knows who Ed SChultz is nor do they care. Randi Rhoades is nothing, never was,...... She's her own worst enemy becuase she harbors so much jealousy of Franken and Garafalo still. The HBO doc "left of the dial" is so telling because the whole time she whines about not getting press, not being ackowledged, "But Im the radio person',...she worked in a dink market in Florida, end of story. She and Ed Schultz dont matter, the two of them together probably dont have a cume much larger than Howie Carr's and this is the best that "the left" has to offer. Dems have zero clue, what does it matter if you have the better ideas if you cant get elected so people actually get to hear about them?. The fact that the dems would actually consider Hilary Clinton in 08 says it all. Yes all forward thinking people love the IDEA of a female president and some day I hope it comes to pass, but Hillary aint the one, she's one of the most disliked, and polarizing people in America in certain quarters, even more so than WIlliam Jefferson CLinton (which to this day I just do not get, people have forgiven him but are still wary of her? weird and Im the biggest Bill Clinton fan you'll find.) . Prime example of the dems problem: They would rather be seen as the party that did the right thing and tried to get a woman elected president, than the party that actually got a president elected and implemented their ideas. OR how about Barack Obama, a brilliant man who essentially gave ONE AMZING SPEECH that the world saw, and has not even served one full term in the senate, yeah he sends the right message to the country even though he'd never get elected!. They're idiots and this is from a lifelong democrat!.

So why did you even bother reading it? you knew from the subject line that it was an "Anti rko" thread but still you read it so what are you bitching about?. Your post also contributed nothing so you're no better.

I read it out of curiousity. I was wondering what possible worth a nasty thread identical in content to one started a year ago would possibly provide.

And I'm complaining out of a hope that this board will improve, although it seems little has changed. Paul and Joe still trolling like mad.

Your violation of this board's personal attack rule has been reported to The Moderator for its immediate action.

Wow, this place REALLY never changes.

Paul Yovino is even recycling the exact same bitter anti-WRKO threads he posted here a year ago. How remarkably uninteresting.

Pointing out the fact that you have a bitter agenda against the station that employed you two decades ago and that you are repeating verbatim threads that got you banned a year ago is not a personal attack, it's reporting the facts, Paul.

The problem with WRKO is NOT its past when owned by General Tire and Rubber Company but its present now owned by Entercom.
Under General Tire WRKO became the number one talk station in New England because "The General" was not afraid to spend the money for the talent that would make it Number one in almost all day parts.

To say that the talk market has changed is not enough of an answer. The problem is that Entercom has a narrow vision of what talk radio should be and has forced it down the ears of this community.
General Tire did not do that. It picked the best talent available across a wide spectrum and let those individual be individuals and not cookie cutters of some particular political philosophy.

WRKO under General Tire could go from Norm Nathan in the morning and later Ted O'Brian to a libertarian and very literate Gene Burns to the vox populi of Jerry Williams and earlier in WRKO's incarnation to David Brudnoy and Jon Keller. In between the politics other general topics could be discussed that would and did generate calls, ratings and interest. Today, under Entercom the station runs like some Soviet blockregime with a precise five year plan for farming and one dare not deviate from that plan even if conditions demanded that one should.

So, the complaint with Entercom has more to do with its inflexibilty and it doctrinaire approach to talk radio which from this experienced ear makes it fall into what Jerry Williams called one of the cardinal sins of that format - becoming boring and predictable.

The problem this poster has with WRKO is not its past but its present.

Your personal agenda against WRKO is obvious and transparent.

Just wanted to point out that this argument is spurious at its best but bring it over to off the air if you really want to put it on the line.

I find WRKO laughable with PVD's garbage, Depetro on the air in the mornings, drug addled gas bag limbaugh on after that and who cares from there. Its in the same predictable garbage pail with WTKK. Conservative radio is repetitive and extremely boring and of little value.....

With as much cultural diversity as we have in the area one would think there would be great radio here...but thanks to the crappy media rules in this nation combined with the cabal the media has formed with the GOP, radio has been damaged to the point where public radio is called "radio for elites" when in fact its for people who should have gotten a decent education......those who cannot understand public radio end up listening to WRKO because their brains are too tiny to go anywhere else......a shame...because the cast of clowns there are going to serve up a heaping bowl of anger and despair that will keep this country divided for year upon year.....but its ok ...because Entercom will keep cashing in on the stupidity of their "base".

if you are willing to think outside the box you can find interesting talk hosts....

ie: if you listen to WLW on XM or WLW ON 700 in cincy....the sat host daryl parks is fashioning an african american into a host...the man acts as kind of a side kick now......

i had a african american on a station i managed who started out as a caller....his day job was at a gm plant...he was great.....

Mike Trivisono, who works at WTAM in cle....started out as a sports caller...a mr know it all type....

ya gotta look and ya gotta be willing to take chances.......

>>As for Larry Elder being a "Libertarian" that's a crock of crap, I dont care what anyone says "Libertarian" is just a semi conservative republican in sheep's clothing: see Jay severin.

Well, I was just quoting from Elder's site. If he aired on a station around here, maybe I could judge him.
Have just heard about him, other than the rare appearance he has made as a guest on someone else's show.

>>Severin
Isn't the joke that a Libertarian is a Republican who wants to legalize pot? :)

Larry Elder has said on KABC that he is in fact now a Republican.

I love this thread--WRKO is getting closer to a 5.0 share with every book and somehow they're doing something wrong.

Like what?

You have the right to your own opinion but not your own facts. Do some research. The problems with WRKO have everything to do with Entercom and nothing to do with General Tire and Rubber Company who owned the station in the 1980's.
Vendettas are a waste of time and energy.

Obviously you don't believe that or you wouldn't be here still whining about a station that sent you packing year after year, ignoring forum rules and using dozens of usernames in the process.

Clearly you need to get over your fixation with WRKO - or at least stop using this web site to exorcise your personal demons.

WRKO - PRAVDA -EAST

One repeats for those who have a comprehension problem that the issue is the current owners of WRKO not the past owners.

The current owners would have survived well in the old Soviet Union touting the Party line and only the Party line as did Pravda which in one of the funniest oxymorons means "truth".

The ability to deliver the party line and only the party line is what was wrong with Pravda and what is wrong with the current owners on WRKO.

The previous owners may have had many problems but offering various non- party line opinions was not one of them.

Please note this room was fine until Coolidge began flaming. They'll then attack the people they flame which is typical Swift Boat garbage. Point is, Coolidge and Entercon/WRKO have an agenda. It isn't to service the people of Boston with quality entertainment on the "talk station".

The Talk Station - a One Way Conversation. They really hate it when people can talk back on another forum like this. Because God knows they don't want intellectual discussion on the allegedly public airwaves. Which is why if I'm going to have to listen to one side, I'll choose to listen to a bigger, clearer reception station, WBUR.

You gotta love Coolidge's hypocrisy. How is it "paranoid" when one realizes Rush Limbaugh has "plants".
It's so friggin' obvious. One side of the story - Rush's side - and very little debate on his documented
misconduct on the front pages of newspapers across America. Hey coolidge, is it "paranoid" to read
the FRONT PAGE of papers and see what a liar your hero Rush Limbaugh is? Please...

Varulven said:

This "room" was a ridiculous, hate filled rant by a fired WRKO employee. That you consider that "fine" is telling.

Then present your evidence. Surely someone of your stature could find some.

Could we bring the level of discussion up a bit?

WRKO's ratings are doing well with Jay Severn out of afternoons, I wonder how long TKK will keep "Michael Graham on 96.9 FM Talk" ?

Good question. Don't think he is catching on even though he is becoming an Imus regular. Of course, the programming at TKK is a bit irregular from syndicated to local, to local, to syndicated, back to local and then syndicated again. Sort of up and down programming that doesn't allow a station to build much of local identity. Remember "live and local"? That went out the window. Of course, Graham is another one note right winger which is tiresome as are left wingers... the few that there are behind a mic.
As with WRKO is comes down to talk radio that is too predictable and formulaic.
Don't see any manager with the fortitude to go in a different direction.

Exactly what i aid, it's a business. They are not in it to make society a better place so dont expect them to, or be upset that they are not. Of course they have an agenda, is it political? maybe but it's more of a corproate money making agenda and the political bent happens to fit that purpouse, sad but true.

Radio is a for-profit business? Say it ain't so!

Severin vs Graham

Even more than that, they have him doing most of the same on-air commercial spots that Severin used to do (Countertop Shop, Ken's Steak House, etc) plus the live appearances at Ken's, F1 Boston etc. ::) I think Severin maintains exclusive rights to talk about Dr Bruce Houttttttttton and Perfect Smiles ;D

As far as politics go, at least Severin's points are a little more unexpected. He parts ways with the hard-line right wingers on certain issues more than Graham. As for how long he will last, no one knows. ???
