Reading: 98.5 repeater for WLEV/Question re: Y102

Is this necessary anymore? Who owns it and what could they do with that puny signal? I know, at one time, Dick Dean used that to bring his "Light and Easy 100 plus, WFMZ" to Reading, but I think 100.7 has a great signal all over, let alone Berks County.

On a side note, anyone besides me think WRFY is ripe for the picking? Even more so than the days of "Musicradio Y102" vs "Mix 107.5 - WYCL"???<P ID="signature">______________

I've discussed this before on this board. I agree whole-heartedly. 100.7 is the best Allentown FM signal in Reading, yet they're the one with a repeater. But does anyone even listen to the repeater? About 4 years ago, I was surprised to hear WLEV on in a Reading office and sure enough, I looked at the tuner and it was on 98.5. But then shortly after that, remember when 98.5 had more technical problems than it was worth? It sounded mis-tuned and muffled for months, making them probably lose the handful of listeners they had. It sounds ok now, but who's listening? If Clear Channel or Nassau used some logic, one of them should buy that repeater and rebroadcast B-104 or The Hawk through Reading. B-104 has an awful signal in Reading and so does the Hawk. The repeater's signal isn't as bad as you make it sound. It for sure doesn't go far out of Reading, but it covers the city proper just fine. The B or the Hawk could do some heavy promotions and may actually take a decent chunk of Y's listeners. Just my idea. Who listens to me? :)

I don't live in Berks Co. anymore(moved west) but I do get back about twice a year......and I must say Y102 sounds Bad, I like the "Rock Hits" but the overall sound has gone down. The imaging is not very Good, just a real small market sound which is not Good for a station that reaches much bigger markets. I remember when 107.5 went AC/Rock and really hurt Y102 and then went Religous.
I will always be a Y102 fan....I grew up with it but they are Very "ripe for the picking".

True.

You can thank Clear Channel for that...

Remenber that 107.5 was religious (WBYO) before it went AC/Rock.

When WDAC bought them back, they couldn't get the WBYO call so they got WBYN instead.
