Reading into Entercom's Divestures

The problem with KUBE during the last few years on 93 was low ratings (stuck at a 2, borderline 1 share) (yes, in the not-saying-much 12+). Movin took the younger end, Hot took the older, and KUBE (and Kiss somewhat) cratered. And with the demos changing over the course of at least 5 years, something needed to happen.

Alt I can definitely see moving to a full stick. KUBE...I have my doubts. If iheart retains the format and moves it en masse again, props to 'em. I just can't see it. And if iheart wants to keep the calls, they can always put 'em in storage on AM or some OOM FM. Worst case scenario.

I could see iHeartMedia use 1090 AM to put all their syndicated talk programming on (Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc.) like what they would do on WRKO in Boston.

A third right-wing talk station in Seattle on a dying broadcast band, makes perfect sense!

Considering most of the talk shows syndicated by Premiere are on Bonneville's 770 The Truth, 1090 AM would be the perfect dumping ground for iHeartMedia to move all of Premiere-syndicated talk shows to.

So what would YOU do with 1090? Turn it off?

Smooth Jazz. Ha Ha. Actually, come to think of it, that might not be a bad idea. Use their national "Smoothest place on the planet" programming and also put it on one of the HD2 or 3 signals. Just a wild thought.

The 1090 and 770 transmitters sit about 50 feet apart, iHeart becomes Bonneville's tenant. So it would be interesting if 1090 went right wing. If I have both air monitors turned up and I stand in the middle, who knows what would happen. The sheep in the field wont care which tower they have to stand next to as long as they can listen to Rush (there really are sheep in the field). Is it worth more to have the shows on Bonneville or clear them locally themselves?

On the other hand 1090 is IBOC, maybe they will put the Jack format on it and put the sports on 95.6. Then it would be safe to have both stations air monitors turned up at the same time.

IHeart also picks up Thunderbird's Hockey which 1090 aired.

What will they do with 850 in Tacoma, it turns out they no longer own the tower site, it's owned by a tower site rental company, vertical something. I could still see Salem picking them up.

iHeart sold all of its towers and tower sites to Vertical Bridge several years ago.

Or leave them where they are, on the better signal, and use 1090 for the Premiere-distributed Fox Sports Network.

No reason to take shows away from Bonneville.

Once you get the various contracts terminated and $$$ in BIG fees paid, Waiting. imaging ordered, a schedule made up, at least a makeshift control room, a MASSIVE promotional blitz to get the grouchy old guys to tune to 1090. Including snafus, lining up finicky local advertisers, time to establish. Piece of cake.

A lot work and money for 50 feet. But if you're really that desperate to cut costs when someone else could be paying you, doable.

Yes, I would put that as an option.

I would also contact the owners of the adjacent signals and see if anyone who must protect 1090 Seattle would be interested in paying some money to see the station go off the air, and they could better their signal. Not a perfect solution, but one I would consider.

Like someone said earlier, brokered programming is possible as well.

iHeartMedia has placed KUBE, KFOO, and WKOX in the Ocean States Trust. It will be interesting to see who ends up acquiring these stations.

This has been mentioned/asked several times on this thread and board, people on this board know how to read.

Turning off 1090 and keeping 850 would not make sense, 1090 has better coverage, even taking into consideration the 1090 null to Des Moines, 850 stops at Federal way at nite. I don't think iHeart bought 1090 to turn it off.

I don't understand why everyone is asking if they'll sell 850 AM. They don't have to, they have room to keep it and 1090.

FMs: KBKS, KPWK, KJR, KZOK, KJAQ
AMs: KJR, KPTK, KHHO

That's 8 total. 5 FM, 3 AM. So what's the issue?

If they were going to spin stations in addition to KUBE & KFOO it would have been spun into Aloha Trust when they filed yesterday.

With the early low land Snow, 1090 may be flipped to a 24 hour weather/snow station, Snow driving tips and such.

Bellingham is already closed for the season with up to 10 inches of Snow. Soon western Washington will paralyzed!

Minute by minute snow depth reports from around the Puget sound will be a hit this winter. Sowmageddon 1090?

At my house it's been a wet snow since 9am, temp gone down from 36-34. I actually have a weather station at the 770/1090 site as well as other locations on Vashon vashonweather.com

I am kidding, kinda.

Yep, it's known as a "Mutual Interference Agreement". Essentially station A pays the licensee of station B to either agree to accept interference from station A by going down in power, changing directional pattern away from station A, etc., or "sell" station B to station A's owner to be shut down and the license turned in.

With the issues of AM stations becoming white elephants, I suspect we will see more of these arrangements occurring.

KUBE, KFOO, and WKOX are being placed in the Ocean States Trust, not the Aloha Station Trust. I could see Three Cities as bobdavcav suggested, pick up the divested FMs and use them as sister stations for KXXO, if not a non-commercial operator.
