Reading Rainbow R.I.P.

I had no idea new episodes of that show were still being made. Did they still have that segment near the end where three different kids recommended a book, and there was a three-note thing played at the end of each kid's recommendation?

I also had no idea WNED produced the show. Growing up as a TV geek watching a lot of PBS I would've thought I would've noticed that, along with endcaps from WGBH and WQED.

I was under the impression that "RR" was a somewhat seasonal show, only airing in the summertime as well as part of the spring. I believe that's the case, I could be wrong...

All I know is... This is what is known as the "old school Reading Rainbow theme": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6j8EiWIVZs

Something tells me the show has changed over the years - then again, what hasn't, right?

I had a chance to do some digging. It turns out that no new episodes have been made since 2006. The article above is a bit misleading. The show is now ending its PBS run (in reruns) due to lack of funds.

Last year they ended Mister Rogers, and now they're ending Reading Rainbow. I really am not all that surprised. The show isn't the same anymore, anyway. The only thing I ever liked about the show was the theme song, and I remember in the late 90s when they changed it I got kind of upset.

In protest of this decision, I will never ever read a book again!

(I'll still read newspapers, internet, and things that suggest I may as well be reading a book anyway though...lol)
