Real Alternative

Been listening to Double X. It's the HD2 channel of WRZX. It plays a higher class of
music than is on the main channel of 103.3.
Wish they'd put Double X on the main channel. Can't stand the trailer trash alternative
that is there now.

Go to the East Coast. You will hear that higher class of alternative all over the dial.
The consultants who program corporate radio, think that our state is number 49 when
it comes to education.
So, they dumb down radio for us Hoosiers.

Being an Indy native and a fan of the genre, I would love it if someone brought the format to the city. I think it could work.

However, X103 seems to do alright with its programming. If Nickelback and Godsmack make you money, why change?

I have been saying that CC should make the Double X HD station the main station since its inception. The Modern Rock/Alternative catalog is diverse and has a long history. It's also still relevant to a great many people.

You can still mix in the mainstream metal/trailer trash alternative. (that term is hilarious)

I was listening to 94.9 The Sound from Cincy while I was in Dayton the past couple of days and I thought that the mix was top shelf.

1) Why re-tool a station that's consistently won their demo for the past decade?

2) Has anyone seen the Arbitron numbers for Alternative stations around the country? The format is fast fading.

I agree, Alternative is a great format, but doing what KROQ does in LA would not work in Indiana. If the Alternative format is a fledgling one in Chicago (take a look at Q101's numbers) what makes anybody think it would suddenly pull astronomical numbers in Indy?

I think what works for KROQ is the blend. They'll rely on what I call "popternative" (Panic At The Disco, My Chemical Romance) to bring in a younger audience, the tried-and-trues (Nirvana, Metallica*) as gold, and throw in some art-house (Radiohead, Deathcab For Cutie) for ground-breaking measure. KROQ is one of the more influencial stations in the country.

Their talent ain't half bad, either, with Kevin & Bean, Kat, Jed and being the flagship of "Loveline".

*mostly from the "Black" album...mostly.

Actually, it make more sense to put that TRAILER TRASH alternative on the main
channel. Those people can't afford HD radios right now,
Those rich guys who love that higher class of alternative can. So, that's why
Doubl X is HD2.
