REAL COUNTRY on WABC website

REAL COUNTRY has been added to 770 WABC website under WABC INSIDER, labled as WABC COUNTRY---no HD coverage---yet!!!!!I wonder what Cousin Brucie thinks about that.I asked him in '73 about WHN when he spoke at Baruch College--and he said it wouldn't work out.

Interesting, I will certainly have to listen to that soon.

I gotta say, I love the WKTU 103.5 HD2 Country Station. Its better than many Country stations I listened to down south. (Like WHKR , was just awful), (Bostons Country was even worse) K92 FM Orlando was real big (pretty awesome station), and the old WGNE before they moved to Jacksonville was just awesome.

Still Clearchannel's WKTU HD2 Is the best in my mind so far.

This I gotta hear.

Thankfully, WABC now has a Country web stream on there, but there is no HD coverage yet, but I hope it will be on an HD-3 station soon, but I will check it out. This station on WABC's webstream plays nothing like Country and it will compete against WKTU HD-2's station, but I hope if there is a competitor just like WRWD and "The Wolf" does in the HV. If WABC succeeds with the country format on a webstream, it will be the next WHN and WYNY.

Again, you can't have multiple program streams on an AM, IBOC or not. Unless WABC dumps talk for country (ain't gonna happen) then country is not coming to WABC.

Hmm. After listening...... Its not so bad, nice to hear a DJ, not so neice to have commercials :p (Been spoiled by WKTU HD2). WABC Country seems to be catering to an older crowd with older country songs and less curents. Very traditional Country, It is cool to hear some of these classics, I still like the WKTU HD2 a bit better, but they are almost different formats.

It's intriguing.

I can't see WABC dumping talk for country at this stage, even though the station is rather stagnant in its revenues (has been stuck in neutral financially even before the current economic downturn) and its core audience, once comfortably 35-64, is aging pretty fast without a lot of new blood coming in at the bottom end of the age spectrum....hmm, come to think of it, maybe they ARE toying with something new, testing the reaction before plunging in...

But they may be testing reaction to country with an online feed of one of Citadel's in-house satellite formats to see if another property (PLJ?) might have a better future in country than in AC. Trouble is, if it's heavy on classic country, is that the best way to test country in NYC when it's probably more likely to respond well to a hit-heavy modern country format--heavy on the Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, light on Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty?
