It's intriguing.
I can't see WABC dumping talk for country at this stage, even though the station is rather stagnant in its revenues (has been stuck in neutral financially even before the current economic downturn) and its core audience, once comfortably 35-64, is aging pretty fast without a lot of new blood coming in at the bottom end of the age spectrum....hmm, come to think of it, maybe they ARE toying with something new, testing the reaction before plunging in...
But they may be testing reaction to country with an online feed of one of Citadel's in-house satellite formats to see if another property (PLJ?) might have a better future in country than in AC. Trouble is, if it's heavy on classic country, is that the best way to test country in NYC when it's probably more likely to respond well to a hit-heavy modern country format--heavy on the Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, light on Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty?
