That is how I decribe the Houston Cluster of stations!

The line up for KPRC is dismal. The line up brings back two former game players. Mr Hendrie and Mr Bakker have been invited to the MOJO. Lets screw up the listener with both stations and move everything.

These people have no clue about radio programming. They are idiots! Flat out idiots!

This is really unbelievable!

I have never seen anything in a market this size so XXXXXX up!

To tell you the truth this should be illegal to let such idiots be in charge.

and there you have it folks - radio's own monday morning quarterback. c'mon truthie, get over there to the cc hq and show 'em how to program!

tooner

ps - hendrie's a genius

You know, tooner, I've got to agree with him. Monday morning quarterback or not, 950 KPRC has hit the skids.

I'm sure it's wishful thinking on my part, but boy doesn't "News Radio 1070 KNTH" seem to have it's golden opportunity, now? The door seems wide open for Salem. Here's hoping that they see it. Seems like they would be able to pull off the "Hear about it here, talk about it there" strategy that has been successful for KTRH/KPRC over the years. What is Salem doing with KTEK/Alvin these days? Still brokered?

It's not just wishful thinking, it's delusional. I'll admit, these KTRH/KPRC changes make me pause and wonder, but you gotta remember, no one except us geeks on this board and a few right wing geriatrics knows about KNTH. Regular listeners of AM who are under the age of 100 know 740, 950 and 610, and that's it. That will not change. A year from now, KPRC will probably have even lower ratings, KTRH will be up (Rush and Hannity in an election year, c'mon!) and KNTH will still have a 0.0...well, maybe a 0.1. Although early results are showing that PPM is not kind to stations like KNTH.

Actually, the breakdowns in age demos and some day parts look good for KNTH. I won't belabor the point as you have made up your mind and that's cool. I will not argue about it in this forum.

KTEK makes a lot of money as a brokered station.

You tell em Chuck! Stations with no visibility can pull in decent revenue from brokered programming. How do you think BizRadio 1320 stays alive. It aint by their stellar 0.0 ratings. In any event, I disagree with Truthguy. Whereas W&J is a big stretch for KPRC's cred, bringing back Phil Hendrie is a great move. Hendrie is a radio genius and the only thing wrong with bringing him back is not programming him in drive-time. I almost seems if KPRC is reacting to the inevitability of KILE 1560. Sounds like they are trying to capture that "all male" audience ahead of KILE signing on. That station hasn't even signed on yet and KPRC is scrambling. What a (female anatomy name) move. Again, Berry is really rolling the dice with W&J. If it doesn't work and they chase off many of their loyal listeners it could backfire with really crappy ratings right through the middle of the day and beyond. As someone that buys radio time I will not ever touch W&J and would be hesitant to touch the lead-out as well. I'll bet that will be the standard reaction by most advertisers.

Re: Real kaos cubed!!!!!!

I agree with you, AdGuy. I too am in the buying game. I consider W&J revenue poison and make no bones about it with my clients. Surely the Reps at CC/Houston know this, too.

I don't understand this new KPRC line-up. I really don't. I understand what could possibly be KPRC's reasoning ..to separate the audience more succinctly between KTRH and KPRC but with Baker and Hunt and W &J and Mancow?

As for beating KILE to the "Guy Talk", punch...you could do that with pirate radio. From what I'm hearing, I'd be surprised if KILE even makes it on the air and if it does launch, I wouldn't suspect it would last very long. That stations handlers aren't operating with a full deck and I mean that in about five different ways.

I have seen the new studios that are being built for KILE or whatever they end up calling it. It looks like a great setup. I just hope they don't put too much money into the air staff and not enough into the board ops and production guys. A sloppy, inexperienced board op can make even the best of hosts sound like an amateur.

Also, from what I have heard, KILE is going to lean more to the sports side with guy talk mixed in.

fmtooner

I always wanted to play sports! I would do better at programming than these jokers. I have the same confidence that you would too.

You are right phil is a great talent.

He did not do well 5 years ago why try it again that is my thing.

W&J and CC faught it out in court at thier last firing from CC, now part II.

INSANE!

I know a couple of people interviewing with the GM of KILE for a couple of positions and from what they tell me he is all over the place as you suggest Wilmington. He forgets appointments, misses meetings and makes inappropriate comments to people he doesn't know. They have put together an impressive on-air lineup, but if they have sub-par support staff and limited promotion at launch, which this might indicate, I would be surprised if they are successful. This new station has the opportunity to make hay in light of 610's current disaster and KBME's inconsistencies. I won't even mention 97.9. With that signal they are a non-factor. So in summation, KILE will either succeed quickly or it will be one of Houston's more prominent train wrecks.

I believe you meant 97.5 and not 97.9 above ;)
