real life injuries or illness written into script

Which TV shows do you remember seeing where a cast member had gotten hurt or ill in real life and that was written into the script?
Here's Lucy was probably the best known one, where she rode around in a wheelchair, bumping into and breaking everything.
Robert Guillaume appeared on 8 Simple Rules after his stroke.
I remember seeing Richard Thomas walking with a cane in The Waltons , but I don't remember if an explanation was given as to what had happened to him. Also, Ellen Corby returned on The Waltons for a number of episodes after her stroke.
I have seen episodes of shows where the actors returned after having had a cold, but their voices are still very nasal and rather high-pitched. The incident I can think of immediately is that of Jean Van Der Pyl in the Flintstones episodes where Wilma was pregnant. Again, Wilma's voice is more nasal than usual.
There's an episode of Here Come the Brides where Clancy has one red eye, where it is obvious that the blood vessels in it broke, but it is never explained.

Kaley Cuoco fell off a horse during the filming of Big Bang Theory, coming close to losing a leg. She was only seen top down during that time.

Further back, Howard McNear (Floyd the Barber) returned to the Andy Griffith Show after a stroke (the role was held open, rather than bring a new barber to town.). An episode that required Floyd to walk into the courthouse was accomplished with old-school sound effect footsteps.

Charita Bauer (who played Bert Bauer) on Guiiding Light had her leg amputated in real life. Months later the show wrote a story where the character had a health problem and ended up having the character’s leg amputated. This is from Wikepedia:

“In a moving scene, Bert dropped a teacup. She tried to get it, but could not, and in sheer frustration, she burst into tears. As she went through rehab following her operation, camera shot closed in on her remaining leg as she learned to walk again, bringing even more realism to the storyline.”

While Rue McClanahan was doing "Maude," she fell through a glass door and nearly bled to death. She had to use crutches, which was written into the show as her husband (Conrad Bain) having run over her foot with the car.
