I can speak to this subject. First of all, there is a lot of grumbling inside the station - there are apparently two cliques - the first is LeBatard, Stugotz and Boog and as the GM of the station, Stugotz allows LeBatard to rule the roost. The other group is led by Joe Rose, OJ/Sid and DeFo who feel all the attention is given to LeBatard and not justified based on his poor ratings.
In recent weeks, OJ/Sid's producer was fired and so was close friend Marc Eisenberg, OJ's first partner who served as Executive Producer.
The incident that drove OJ over the top was their booking of Will Ferrell as a guest for their show (OJ and Sid). Sid and OJ were talking about it for almost a week, promoting it, etc. LeBatard's producer, Marc Hochman went around their backs and booked Ferrell and Ferrell's people decided to go with afternoon drive as opposed to a mid-day interview. The situation was handled very unprofessionally by management and that was that and OJ had enough.
Sid is openly campaigning for his old job back in NY at WFAN - you can hear his interivew with Mike Francesa on the WFAN archives page - so it looks like that whole show will be gone in a few more weeks.
790 is bleeding money, firing people and not replacing them to try to stay afloat. Sales are way down, both for Dolphins and otherwise, and morale is at an all-time low.
The Spring ratings just came out and WQAM kicked their butts again. I hear WQAM is switching up their line-up soon and moving Goldberg back to afternoons and Mandich will follow Neil. There will be a new morning show and word has it Kenny Walker, formerly of Y-100 is the favorite to take on the lead position. Seems like some smart moves. My guess is that 790 will give up on sports sometime next year - their owner doesn't like to lose money and word has it he's lost more than $5 million in the first two years.
