Reality TV + Other Shows

Is it me or is TV becoming Reality TV only? everywhere you tune in they have a reality show, especially MTV and VH1 which should be renamed with reality-themed title because that is all they show nowadays, yes I know they have been doing it for a while now, but geez, show something else for pete's sake! (LIKE VIDEOS!!)

"Showbiz Tonight" should be re-named to "Britney Tonight" because that is alllll they talk about on there, goodness, everytime I turn to that show, there is Britney's mug on that show, what's next? "We spotted Britney shopping for baby food at the Supermarket"?? come on already!

Anyways, anyone fed up with these things, let me know your thoughts.

There is no such thing as "reality TV", it is "manufactured reality". If it was truly Reality TV, it would be shown unedited which would include long stretches of incredibly boring, mundane everyday things, like doing laundry, people scratching their crotch, mowing the lawn, making a sandwich, etc. And no one is going to watch that, just like I don't watch the manufactured reality shows.

Oh, I know that there is no such thing as "Reality TV", just that I didn't know what else to call it lol. But yeah, its garbage and I think that producers have no clue what to come up with anymore.

"Oh, I know that there is no such thing as 'Reality TV', just that I didn't know what else to call it...."

"Unscripted programmes"? That's what I generally refer to them as. I bet that's probably stretching the truth a bit, as there's probably a script behind many of them (I wouldn't be a bit surprised---but you just don't hear about it, lest a repeat of the "Twenty-One scandal" should emerge.)

On the other hand, I *suppose* one could call a programme like "America's Funniest Home Videos" (note the inclusion of "home" in the title--specifically I refer to the older series with Bob Saget which ABC still airs the reruns of late Saturday nights) because its premise is based upon clips of "real" home video and movie footage. But even that may be stretching the term a little bit..............

Just my $2.00 worth (less VAT, P&H, sales tax etc.)

Good one, YEKIMI - I literally laughed out loud when I read this (one of the funniest things on this board since someone posted that today's female singers sound like cats in a meat grinder). But what made it even funnier for me was the thought that, perhaps, this wasn't that far-fetched after all... Couldn't you just picture Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson doing their laundry or either Ozzie Osbourne or Anna Nicole Smith scratching themselves?

It's not just MTV and VH1 that seem to have turned into the "fake reality show" network. NBCU's Bravo Network seems to have morphed into it first. For at least the past 6 months (if not longer) most of their daytime lineup consists of all day marathons of "Top Chef", "Real Orange County Housewives" (or whatever the heck it's called), Project Runway, etc.

and is it just me or when they make "reality" show, people on it have to be all glamorous, the only shows where you actually see normal people is that "Geek" show and "The Biggest Loser" but then again, I am sure that those poor people are made fun of, whereas if let's say a "hunk" or a "babe" comes on, people will be salivating all over them, don't get me wrong, I like women as much as the next person, but not one non-good looking person on let's say, "Next" or whatever other shows are out there, simply, I just don't care, I wish that TV would be like TV I grew up watching, not this garbage they put on.
