Really Good DXing Today!

Stations I picked up today in Myrtle Beach, all from the sunshine state.

92.3 K92FM - WWKA - Orlando, FL (Country)
Beach 92.7 WBHQ - Flagler County, FL (Adult Hits)
95.1 WAPE - Jacksonville, FL (CHR/Pop)
99.1 KIQ - Jacksonville, FL (Country)
Lite Rock 99.3 WLRQ - Cocoa Beach, FL (Adult Contempary)
101.1 WJRR - Cocoa Beach, FL (Modern Rock)
V101.5 - Jacksonville, FL (Urban AC)
101.9 WJMH 102 Jamz - Orlando, FL (Urban)
X 102.9 WXXJ - Jacksonville, FL (Alternative Rock)
Mix 105.1 WOMX - Orlando, FL (Hot AC)

All of those stations except 92.3, 92.7, 95.1 and 99.3 are almost routine in Charleston during the summer. 99.3 used to come in well certain days, and even 92.3 comes in some days.

Lastnight I was able to pull in 103.7 WSOC and K 104.7 both out of Charlotte, NC. WSOC came in better with the RDS text showing up. K 104.7 came in well but with static, great sounding AC station which is to bad Myrtle Beach doesn't have one.

Back in the 1980s I was in Myrtle Beach and heard an Orlando station at 105.9 playing "classic hits". I think it was the first time I had ever heard the term used.

I heard WXLY at home when I was waiting for the debut of My 102.5 in Greenville, and they too described their format as "classic hits", but I think that was later.

I seem to recall 99.1 in Daytona, too, on one occasion in Myrtle Beach. Surely I have a record because I wrote them a snail mail and put an Elvis stamp on it, and it got a "Return to Sender" because I didn't have any idea how to find the full address.

Yep, 105.9 was classic hits as Kool 105.9. That signal can be heard very frequently during the summer around here as Sunny. It overpowers Myrtle and everything else on that frequency.

I used to hear K-92 before Charleston moved in. I could hear WLRQ also before a sports translator moved in there.

I was picking up these stations this morning from Gaffney SC:

Interesting to note about WBCU's translator @ 103.5 in Union County.
It's a country station but I caught them playing a request hour including
The Temptations (My Girl) & Elton John (The Way You Look Tonight)

Savannah & Jacksonville, FL have been pegging the meter in Myrtle Beach the past couple of nights, but nothing further than that. Still waiting for my first E-skip of 2011.

Wait till the E-Skip starts to pop in... Last yerar or year before I can't remember I was able to pick up WSOC up here in Northern IL... It was kinda cool actually picking up a station you know about almost a 1000 miles away... CC1

My best E-Skip since I've been here in Gaffney was 3 years ago, when I recieved the following:

97.3 KAJA-FM San Antonio
99.5 KISS-FM San Antonio
96.5 KTLG-FM Corpus Christi
104.1 KRBE-FM Houston
99.7 WOOF-FM Dothan AL
94.9 WKSJ-FM Mobile AL

My 1st big catch I remember was when I lived in NJ,
in 2003, I heard 102.3 WMBX from West Palm Beach all the way in Toms River NJ.

The best catch I've had was when I got 101.5 WLYF from Miami clearly in the car a couple of years ago on Woodruff Rd. It sounded like it was next door for about 5-10 minutes.

Today it is really good too. West Palm Beach was coming in, most of their stations, including 97.9 right next to 98.1 on James Island.

A load of Jacksonville stations were in too. WQIK was coming in strong on my walkman at the beach.

I just logged some E-Skip stations I was getting from the central US.
Today was a great E-Skip day!

hey guys glad we could juice up the sky for you!!!!!!! Hope you all enjoyed the stations from the middle of the world... Weather here in IL, IA, MO, and WI has been wild and I am sure that really helped juice radio DX'ing up for you all... CC

Even thou our signal is not very strong we (WLRE) generally get calls on our 96.5 translator from people way off this time of year that hear us and call in when they hear the phone number. We haven't had that happen much this year yet but we have heard some great stations our self.

I used to work at 93.3 in eastern NC and one morning I answered the request line to hear "hey man, what's this crap? Where's my rock music?"

I said "where are you calling from?"
"(some town) South Carolina"

Sorry buddy, not gonna hear The Planet this morning.

In 2001, I was doing afternoon drive at WCIB (Cool 102) on Cape Cod and, one summer day, I received a call from a listener saying that our station was the best thing he ever heard and wished there was one where he was. Turned out that he was picking us up from Virginia Beach.
