REALLY, HOW CAN CC KEEP GOING????????

I know the hate for cc, they have single handily ruined just about every market in this country. How much longer can they stay afloat? Can you imagine the motivation of the employee's that work there? :p :-\  :(

My cousin works for a CC station in another Southeastern city, and he told me that it's well known within CC that Atlanta is the sick child of CC.

But why? Let's see...

Your top-rated stations (Project and Bull, both 100kW signals) are 14th and 16th in the market. Assuming 99x/Q100 gets a bump and Dave picks up a point from 99X, Project and Bull will be fighting each other for the worst ratings of a 100kW station in the market.

You have the top-rated AC station in Atlanta and have your updial competitor (B98.5) on the ropes. So what do you do? Change your branding because people make fun of it because you used it back in the Beautiful Music days, and send your ratings into the toilet. THEN what do you do? Well, Atlanta has five country stations, if you include the rimshots South 107 out of Rome/Rockmart, WNGC 106.1 out of Toccoa/Gainesville, and WEKS 92.5 The Bear out of Griffin. Let's make it SIX! Atlanta's the SOUTH! They looooove country music there! Surely it'll be easier to compete against 5 country stations than one AC station!

You have an AOR station that once ruled the airwaves, even topping Arbitron at one point over V-103 and Star 94 and Power 99 and WSB AM* (*pre-talk radio boom). Yet, you've programmed it over the years into nothingness. What kind of AOR? Is it classic? Is it straight ahead AOR? Is it new rock? Well, they had a good morning show, but they made fun of the Latino station's personalities. Fire 'em! Heck, let's change the branding, dump a heritage brand of 32 years, and start new!

You have an AM talker that is 50kW day, but is 23rd in the market, below a sports-talk station. Not even "Planet Radio" was this much of a disaster...

No, that would be "Uranus Radio"...heh..heh.. ;D

...and now, CC has ordered "further spending cuts"... What else is there left to cut in Atlanta??? Will they just stopping paying the rent for the building of death or the Georgia Power bill and hope for the best?

They could lower the power of all the tin cans ... or save millions by just turning them off.
It's obvious few people would notice, miss them or care.

At some point the shareholders have to look at the cc strategy. Why own multiple stations in the same market? What value is there for a shareholder to have multiple formats if they are last in every demo? cc needs to shed stations and focus on winning in a single demo. They seem overwhelmed in Atlanta and are making silly choices such as the bull and killing the greatest radio brand in Atlanta - 96rock for a 99x knock off. Copying a station that had such terrible rating that it flipped to copy 96rock. They held the door open for rock100 who will now destroy project's miserable 2 share.

Their stock has taken a serious beating lately. Hopefully they'll just go broke.

Since cc wants to take themselves private, it makes sense to drive down the stock price.

Maybe this explains everything----even Bloomquist!

When the Bloomquist reign of terror first began, I thought there were evil conspiracies behind all cc’s decisions in Atlanta. Now I’m thinking it may be just plain incompetence.

Why would they want to drive down the stock price when they are selling all
their stations?

Because key players want to purchase controlling interest. The lower the share price the cheaper it will be for them to regain control. Ever see the movie "The Hudsucker Proxy?"

^ Bingo. Keep in mind, CC isn't selling all of their stations, just some. They're trying to take CC private, instead of being a public company, as they currently are now.

They are trying to drive share prices down to gain control of a company worth LESS money?
You must have a government economic advisor!
There is no logical reason to drive the intrinsic value of a company down. Now....you can play games with the numbers...."cook the books"....but to intentionally destroy real core value of a business is insane.
I have also really wondered if there was some "unseen" motive on the part of the Mays boys to destroy the company. I just can't think of one. Money is money....rich people avoid throwing away money. That's why they are rich.
It was a failed experiment begun by one Randall Michaels and company. buy a thousand or two radio stations and program them with the same stuff everywhere. Cincinnatti loves the way we do radio....so will everyone else. It was the genesis of the cookie cutter formats.....cookie cutter management....cookie cutter business solutions. It was the antithesis of the traditional local radio business model.....and it failed miserably.
So now we have a company panicked. Revenues are falling....the money boys are getting nervous...and the buyout, which BTW, stands to make many people very wealthy, is in danger. And this is all new territory....nobody has ever tried to run 1000 stations before....there are no "knights on white horses" to come to the rescue.
Where do you think the stock will bottom out? And do you think the deal will still close? And at what "reduced" price per share?

taylorengineer is exactly right. As of now, there is an offer to take CC private for a set amount. But as the company continues to lose value, that original offer looks more and more overpriced. Consequently, CC is scared to death because they think the deal is going to fall apart. I, for one, hope that it does and CC has to eat it big time.
