Yeah but no DJs. Lujack & Edwards in the morning were great, but with that awful signal it was hard to hear them in your car unless you were on the southside.

I was fortunate enough to live within a few miles of their tower's, so I got a clear signal, both day and night.
The signal was really bad through most of the rest of the area. Their COL is Berwyn, if Clear Channel wasn't
so cheap they would have located the transmitter a little more north and west, instead of putting it on the
WGRB tower's. IMHO, I don't think they really cared if this station was a success, they just wanted to get
the signal up here. The original CP was for Johnston City, in southern Il. It is sad because I believe the station
could have done very well with a better signal. I remember Lujack joking many times when they were doing
the traffic when they were still on nightime power, when there was an incident downtown or in Niles..etc.
He would say why bother reporting this they can't hear us anyways ;).

I wonder sometimes if this has hurt WVON's audience on the west side and western suburbs, where 1450's
signal is stronger than the current one.

I agree that Realoldies 1690 never had a chance with that terrible signal. Lujack often used to say "here we are at that very secret spot on the dial".

Ole' Uncle Lar on WVON, the pulse of Chicago: "That station couldn't make it across the street".

The Random Act of Kindness Lujack and Snot Nosed Little Tommy did for the Grobber during the 2007 Big 89 Rewind trashing WVON, The Chicago Sky and Les Grobstein was HIGH-LARIOUS. ;D
I have the audio on Memorex, I think I'll post it on YouTube.Com :D

No jocks, but great audio and a great 50s/60s music mix. Deep....sounds good (especially at 128kbs)....and hardly anybody seems to know it's there! I've often wondered, however, what the point is. Is it on an HD subchannel? If so, there's no ID as such. Perhaps it's somehow related to the fact that 'VON is is operating with facilities leased from CC.

Hmm...I had no trouble hearing WRLL in my vehicles as long as I was south and east of Palatine. And this is with factory supplied radios. But then often those aftermarket radios have awesome FM tuners but their AM tuner stinks.

I also could never figure out why they're still on.

Could you hear them at night?

Yes at night in Palatine or Schaumburg, but not where I live near Crystal Lake, unless there was an auroral disturbance, which causes AM skip to decrease. But this was before the 1690 signed on from Toronto. Now it's a mess at night unless you're south of I-290 and east of I-355.

North of Evanston I had to listen on line if I wanted to hear it at night. The reception on the car radio was too weak, especially north of Highland Park.
