Reason #83 To Go Satellite

No Amber alerts every 10 minutes. JEEZ...talk about driving your TSL into the ground! And did Nurse Jeff mention the horrendous quality of these reports?

Good doctor, I usually have no beef with you, but on this issue I have to take you to task.

The Amber Alert is a good program. It has saved lives in many markets, and has the potential to do so in Arizona. I know if my kid was nabbed, I would want any effort made to get him back. If that means someone driving down the road has their music interrupted to hear a report from the cops, so be it.

The "quality" of the reports is irrelevant. It's a cop doing a report, all you need is the facts.

This may be idealistic, but broadcasters do still have to justify their license for the public interest. The airwaves are regulated by the government. It makes sense for stations to want to participate in the Amber Alert program.

By the way, I was part of the effort to bring Amber Alert to Arizona. I worked with JD Freeman, Art Brooks, and a bunch of police agencies to bring this here. Obviously, we worked with other GMs and owners as well. We worked hard on ensuring the system would not be abused, and on balance, it's worked well.

Not once in any of the discussions did any broadcaster object to adding Amber Alert to the EAS system because it might affect ratings, TSL or revenue. They all wanted to do it and participate enthusiatically.

I agree! Frosty Heidi and Frank were in Palm Springs doing a live show and they broke in with the damm amber alert. I want to hear how drunk the triplets are going to get, not the buzzing amber alert sounder! Oh and why do they not cut into the commercials to run it but only when the program comes back on the air. The MAN has got us again!

A tip of the fez for getting this off the ground. But it's time to tweak as it just about caused Nurse Jeff to drive the '76 Gremlin into a Buckeye irrigation canal this morning! Aye caramba!

The Doc has a point. It's not about just interrupting music. The other 5,999,999 of us could care less about "your kid". Watch the crumbcruncher better next time.
