Reason Why I Wanted To Mix Those Different Styles Is Because...

Back in 1999, I became a customer of Direct TV.  Was exposed to Music Choice and their CCM presentation.  Checked them out and noticed they mixed in various styles of music.  Liked the way they did things and was heavily influenced by it.  It only took a few months for me to fall in love with them.  I liked that delivery so much, I thought of doing the same thing should my own project work out.  Now that I'm learning so much about the radio business, I may not be able to go Music Choice with my own presentation.  I know the music was all over the map, back in 1999 but I didn't mind it.  So much of my addiction to the older tunes came from that influence.  I know many of you will say that Music Choice and you are two different entities altogether.  My question would be this: How can Music Choice mix many styles of music on their CCM channel and succeed with it?  I wanted to go that route too but many of you reading would discourage me.  However, since my radio station will be the first and only all Christian musical station for my hometown, I might take that risk and see what happens.  That Music Choice program still influences me.  I wish Direct TV would bring them back.  Miss seeing them, on my Satellite provider.  I can still check them out, when I'm visiting someone that subscribes to Charter Cable.

P.S. Now here's a sample of their playlist from August of 1999.  That's when I first became a customer to Direct TV.  Steven Curtis Chapman, Wayne Watson, Michael W. Smith, Sandi Patti, Rev. Milton Brunson (You heard me right) (Know every song they played from His Greatest Hits V.1 CD), Mattie Moss Clark, David Meece, The Imperials, The slower DC Talk tunes from Jesus Freak and Supernatural, White Heart, Michael Card, Twila Paris, Glenn Campbell, Denice Williams, The Winans, BeBe and CeCe Winans, CeCe's Solo songs, Susan Ashton, Amy Grant, Keith Greene, 2nd Chapter of Acts and the slower tunes from Third-Day. When I first checked them out, they were very slow about updating their music but over time that changed.  As of now, that channel has been playing more of the up tempo type songs.  The hard stuff, they're still leaving behind.

While varied, what you're listing is a significant number of artists that would fit into the "AC/Inspo" format. :D

I think that the most important thing to keep in mind with music selections, is to PRAY about it! Seek the LORD. What would *HE* have you to play? Keeping Christ in the center of the music (in the lyrics) will certainly make an impact on listeners. Being prayerful about the format, but also about the very songs, themselves. Pray over which songs should be played and which should not. God will definitely honor the intent of the heart, when your heart is set to do His Will. :)

Remember what Jesus said... if I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto Me. Lift Him up in your music and programming, and He will draw the listeners... word of mouth is a powerful thing! :)
