Reason why Sixers left WIP and CBS radio

The agreement also stated that the Sixers could be bumped for a Flyers or Eagles game, but not for the Phillies, says our source. Why not for the Phils? Because the contract was written three years ago, before the team moved to WIP.
I'm confused by this part, because if this was going on the wording of a 3 yr old contract, then the Phillies shouldn't have mattered. The contract was also written before 94.1 was a sports station. No Phillies games air on 610. So If the sixers game was bumped off both 94.1 and 610 by something, then only the 610 bump should count, right?

You can't even say the contract goes with the calls, cause 610 still has the WIP call. 94.1 has WIP-fm as its call.

All in all, sounds like the sixers used the 1 day notice as an excuse to get out.

As for the flyers, since the sixers beat them to getting a contract, they will still be bumped (although still on FM) when playing on the same night as the sixers, so its not like they can use the fans havning to scan for us as an excuse.

Just glad that the Fanatic now has two of the cities major sports properties. It makes them a legit player now. They won't be abandoning sports anytime soon.

How much of a role will 950 play in this switch?

My guess spillover..Sixers games there when the Flyers are on. Flyers should have precedence over the Sixers. Remember, plans are there to create radio networks for both teams again.

No. Sixers had a contract before the Flyers. When there is a conflict, the Sixers will be on 97.5 and the Flyers will be on 950 and 93.3 WMMR.

Considering it's postseason basketball and hockey, the schedule is not set in stone. It's rare to have both the Flyers and Sixers in the playoffs. Why are the Sixers mad about being on WOGL? CBS could have announced very often on 610 and 94.1 that the Sixers are on 98.1. If there was a Phillies game, it should have been on 1210 and 94.1. The Sixers could have been on 610, and the presence of 94.1 is moot because it was WYSP 3 years ago.

The Flyers are a better match for MMR's overall programming than the Sixers anyway.

Fully agree. I can understand the Flyers on 93.3. The Sixers? No way.

The couple times there was a 3 teams conflict WIP ran promos heavily about where to find each game and they even utilized the RDS to convey the message.

That said I think both the Sixers and Flyers had a legitimate beef about having their playoff games bumped off the FM in favor of regular season Phillies games. CBS let the Phillies back them into a corner to sign a contract that essentially made them alienate two of their other three contracts. Only reason they didn't screw the Eagles in the process is because their contract trumps the Phils in precedence. CBS could have negotiated the contract that would have given them more flexibility as to where to place the games and thus not piss off their other teams.

Is it fair to then say that the cost of WIP retaining the Wells Fargo Center's main pro tenants would have been to let the Phillies go to WPEN?

Yeah you can say that. I just don't see how putting the Phillies on 98.1 when there was a conflict with a better game (eg. a playoff game vs an early regular season game) wouldn't have pacified them in that regards. The Phillies were pretty hellbent on being on FM. WOGL is an FM station. Problem solved.

CBS Radio Philadelphia has had a bad few months (losing out on WKDN and now losing the Sixers and Flyers rights), recently and I think it's due in part cause of the management of the radio cluster and the two TV stations being combined and the TV management obviously not having a clue as to how radio works.

When CBS has had the rights to the World Series, which happened back in the 80's, the games were on 98.1. I think the listeners would still accept that.
