Reason why WDSJ flipped?

For starters (pardon me if I need to be corrected here) but wasn't CC considering the possibility of putting this Greenville FM up for sale?

Breif history:
WDRK (Lewell Broadcasting 1964-1989)

WLSN (Treaty City Broadcasting 1990 until purchased by Hawes-Saunders then sold again to CC when it was forced to sell off WING/WGTZ to aquire Jacor)

WBKI (Buckeye Country)

WDJO (Dayton's Jammin' Oldies)

WDSJ (Dayton's Smooth Jazz, then back to country as "The Bull" and once again to oldies as "Dayton's Big 106.5."

Okay...they honked off the country, oldies and jazz fans..now throwing the bull out to pasture, upsetting what country fans were left...what in the dickens is CC up to?

WLQT and WMMX have somewhat similar soft A/C formats...yet want to divert Fly's listeners away...I just don't get it.

In short...total haphazard (mildly stated) radio spearheaded by corporate greed.

I miss Dayton radio the way it used to be when Great Trails had the young people,Cox had the older adults, Bud Crowl had the local soul music and talk fans and Group One did whatever it took to compete with Great Trails....each station had its own distinctive identity for decades.

I can only begin to imagine how Gene "By Golly" Barry,Jack Wymer,Ricky Smith,Lou Emm and the others who have passed from this world can be so incredibly abhorred in their graves. Radio broadcasting is no longer in the people business...it has become the Chase Manhattan and Citibank of what is what I now call "the fifth ghetto."

The golden age of broadcasting has passed.

There weren't many country fans upset at all...the station barely crawled out of the cellar. I think they did beat Kiss Country...but that's it.

And yes, at last word, the station was scheduled to be sold, along with 94.5 But, there have been rumors (which could be just that) that so far, no one has offered the "right price", which would not be too surprising given the economy.

The new 60's/70's format, one would think, would hurt Lite...but...rumors have also persisted that Lite was moving out of the 70's. So, take your best guess here...

When did Hawes-Saunders buy WLSN? I thought Treaty City went bankrupt and sold to Clear Channel around 1997 or 1998.

As WLSN, the station started off as B/EZ then gradually evolved to smooth jazz utilizing Superaudio's New Age of Jazz format. I listened many o' night when I was suffering from insomnia. I remember the word of the day feature that always aired at midnight was always, for some reason, "indulge." :)

I think Hawes-Saunders was interested but I don't believe the purchase was completed.

Yep, the assignment of license request was filed with the FCC but the CDBS has a note in it that says a letter was received indicating the purchase would not be completed.
