Recapping the last calendar year: Eight Atlanta format changes...

And, with that, we count eight format changes since a year ago when a stunt loop of Lauryn Hill segued into "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, creating Power 96-1. After that, we had...

Journey ---> Q100 20 @ 97.9
99x ---> 98.9 The Bone
WiLD ---> straight rhythmic under the same moniker
98.9 The Bone ---> 98.9 The Walk
Rock 100.5 ---> Mainstream rock, keeps moniker
WiLD ---> Radio 105.7/96.7
98.9 The Walk ---> Oldies 98.9

And, who knows, with how volatile the Atlanta radio landscape is, we might see one or two more by week's close. :)

I believe that 97.9 is going to change next. Their ratings were equal to or worse than 98.9..
IIRC 97.9 had about a 0.3. Walk had a 0.1. Journey had a 0.5.

Throw in 92.9 Dave FM----> The Game and Atlanta has seen more format changes in the past year than most markets do in several markets.

Of course, about half those changes involve translators, and it seems Cumulus is taking the approach of trying different things on the translators to see what sticks.

Also, the changes at Rock100.5 and the change to rhythmic at Wild weren't really that dramatic, either.

The only real changes to real signals would be flipping Dave to Game and Wild to Radio 105.7.

We seem to think a change is coming to 97.9. Depending on what goes there, I could see some tweaking with the big boys:

1) If 97.9 goes variety hits, River may go more classic rock and less classic hits.
2) If 97.9 goes classic country, Kicks may go more current country and might even get NASHed.
3) If 97.9 goes classic rock, River may go more classic hits and less classic rock, and Rock100.5 may go less classic rock and more active/modern rock.
4) If 97.9 goes soft AC, I don't predict any changes.

We've gone from 80s overload (Journey, River, Rock100.5, B98.5) to a dearth of 80s music (River), so there's a hole there that could be filled by variety hits.
