Reception in Sumter

I am considering a move to Sumter. With that said, are the Florence stations (WPDE, WBTW) receivable with an outdoor antenna? Also, how is the reception of tv and radio overall in Sumter?

I would guess you would get radio and TV reception from Columbia market in Sumter, with an outside antenna. And perhaps Florence/Myrtle Beach is a possibility. Not sure about Charleston or Wilmington. Try TVfool.com or Rabbitears and put in your zip code to get a good idea.

WIS-TV ought to come in on your fillings out in Sumter. Last time I checked, their tower is ENE of Cola...maybe 15-20 miles from Sumter!

Ditto with the big class C's in Cola-town...those will be no problem in Sumter. Even on a bad radio.

The Florence TV stations should come in reliably with an outdoor antenna. A good radio will get you most of the Florence stations and the remainder of Cola stations. Tropo should bring in FM's from Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or Charlotte stations nightly most of the year.

Hey Neil I am not sure how reception is in Sumter. With a lot of stations running IBOC and lot of the LPFM's out there reception might be different. When I lived in NE Kershaw County I was lucky to pick up a lot of stations with with a 4 element Yagi up about 35 or 40 feet I could pull in pretty much anything from NC, GA, and SC. When I was at my mom and dads this past summer I just had my old trusty radio shack digital tuner walkman for listening and most of what I listened to was just the local stations IE WPUB, the Miller stations, and some of the other Columbia/Florence stations... I figured in Sumter, I would be able to pick up Columbia, Florence, and DX Charleston and Myrtle Beach stations easily. The times I've "rode through" Sumter, I was able to get 95SX out of Charleston, 102.1 The Fox out of Florence, 96.9 out of Charleston, Foxy 99 out of Fayetville, WORG out of Orangeburg, 101.7 Chuck FM out of Charleston, 103X out of Florence, Wave 104 out of MB, WYNN 106.3 out of Florence. I'm not sure if these are REGULAR pickups or not. As for tv, I noticed WBTW 13 is on the cable systems in Sumter and the only Florence/MB station on the lineup with the rest being Columbia stations.
