Reception Notes from Meriden on TUE JUN 24

Hey all! While having lunch at Westfield Shoppingtown in Meriden, I sat near the window with I-691 in view. I intentionally put the CITY/NORMAL switch of my Panasonic AM/FM/CD "Walkman" on CITY, to reduce the overload from West Peak. A couple of these surprised me.

NOTE---> (1) Excellent Signal (2) Fair Signal (3) Poor Signal

3 88.1-WESU Middletown
3 89.5-WPKN Bridgeport
1 90.5-WPKT Meriden
2 91.1-WSHU Fairfield
1 92.5-WWYZ Waterbury/Hartford
1 93.7-WZMX Hartford
1 94.3-WYBC New Haven
2 95.7-WKSS Hartford/Meriden
3 96.5-WTIC Hartford
1 97.5-WALK Patchogue, NY
1 98.3-xxxx Meriden
1 99.1-WPLR New Haven
1 99.9-WEZN Bridgeport
2 100.5-WRCH New Britain/Hartford
1 101.3-WKCI Hamden/New Haven
2 102.9-WDRC Hartford
2 104.1-WURH Waterbury/Hartford
1 104.9-WIHS Middletown
1 105.9-WHCN Hartford
3 106.9-WCCC Hartford
1 107.9-WEBE Westport

I can no longer get WESU-FM 88.1 at my New Britain home, due to that Spanish pirate on 87.7 FM. WEBE-FM 107.9 of Westport comes in remarkably well for being side-mounted on a smokestack! I had some trouble with WDRC-FM 102.9 and WURH-FM 104.1, despite them both being located on West Peak. I noticed that everything from Avon Mountain or Rattlesnake Mountain was crap. Is there another ridge besides West Peak which could be causing those weak signals? Switching it back to "NORMAL" mode brought in a trace of WBMW-FM 106.5 of Ledyard, but that was it. Lastly, for what it's worth, the only usuable AM signal I could get at the window seat was WMMW-AM 1470 of Meriden. Sad! (I am aware the CITY/NORMAL switch is only for FM!)

But that's a pretty tall smokestack and a huge signal. You can pick it up in the Mansfield/UConn area very well. I've even had it coming in loud an clear down at Interchange 13, Elizabeth, NJ.

Nice! I thought it was strange to find a sweet spot in midtown Manhattan and get them in a bit! That's a bit tough with WBLS-FM being on 107.5 no less!

I used to live in New Brunswick, NJ (30 miles south of NYC; exit 9 off the NJ Turnpike) and WEBE always came in loud and clear, even in the daytime.

I got WLNG 92.1, WPAT 93.1, WEHM 92.9, WMAS 94.7, WLVG 96.1, WQHT 97.1, WBAI 99.5, WBEA 101.7, WAQY 102.1, WBAZ 102.5, WKTU 103.5, WEEI 103.7, and WDRE 105.3, in addition to what you got, on a portable radio in Meriden (from somewhere just off exit 19 on I-91, with the highway in sight). The overload from West Peak shows up everywhere, and it's hard to get those weak stations. 94.9 is the worst for overloading. The overload stops in Wallingford and Cromwell. WEBE 108 gets out very well, despite being on a smokestack. It's right next to the Long Island Sound, and tropo enhances it a lot. It's usually one of the first stations to come in when the tropo hits in NJ. I once got WEBE 108 about 25 miles northeast of Baltimore, MD!

92.5, 93.7, 95.7, 102.9, 104.1, and 105.9 are from West Peak
