Have spent the first half of this week in Minnesota, and can definitely confirm that 1170 from Davenport is definitely pumping a fine signal into Minneapolis and points north.

Can you pick up 1160 WYLL in Minnesota now at night since they've changed their pattern & run 50K north at night?

Yes....and quite well. Better than I had expected, actually. Blew out KSL and everything else on the channel. This was in Minneapolis. I didn't try 1160 when I was in the central part of the state.

I figured they could be heard up there now with the new night facilities.

First of all, my apologies for the fact that this thread has drifted.....

Anyway, as regards WYLL.... Yes, it was quite strong in Minneapolis early this week. But so was WMVP, which isn't always the case. Could have been conditions....maybe, maybe not. "The four blowtorches" from Chicago were about the same as always. As was WIND. Meaning all five of these had good signals.

WIND does send signal that way. WMVP doesn't but I've never had problems hearing them up there.

I've never head a problem hearing WMVP there either, but this week it was stronger than usual.

I've heard WMVP well in northern Minnesota up near the Canadian border which is somewhat surprising considering that they send much of their signal east.

With WMVP, I think the way the null works, plenty of nighttime signal goes north.  Main null, if memory serves, is to the west (which is why you lose it west of Aurora).  Hence, I've always noticed that 1000 is always stronger at night anywhere in the eastern half of Wisconsin than anywhere in the west.  But in the west, the farther north you go, the better it gets. That explains why the signal is usually pretty decent in northeast Minnesota.

Back in my '90s business trips, I used to make the drive from Winnipeg to Duluth a couple of times a year.  I'd usually spend the night in Kenora, ON....about an hour and a half north of International Falls.  WMVP(LUP) was always fairly reliable up there....although if you look on a map, you're about as far west as Omaha.  In fact, I made several attempts at KOMO on my visits....none successful.

Back to the original topic of the thread (does anyone remember that?). KMOX was always its usual reliable self in that part of the northwoods....despite plenty of splatter from KFAN.
