Reception on 740

That station really gets out day and night according to all the various reports.

I didn't think getting it where you are was out of the question. I've noticed too that whether or not I can hear the South Florida station on 1700 in the day depends on the specific location, whether or not there's background noise from other things near by.

I shouldn't even have to ask if you get 1030 KCTA during the day but do you and how good?

I don't know if you got to see this when I posted it the first time but the last time I went to the Gulf, I heard a religious station that was someone preaching on 1030 in the background of a Spanish station.

Here is a scan of a few stations with 1030 being one of them.

Here's 1030 alone where you can definitely hear the preaching.

I'd say it had to be KCTA by the process of elimination.

That's really hard to hear, but I'd agree that you probably were receiving KCTA. Their programming is in English and they put a very good signal into the Houston area; in Galveston they're almost like a local.

KCTA really gets into Houston - if they had a better format they would probably show up in Houston ratings. I remember back in the early 90's when they did have a better format I listened to them to almost Baton Rouge.

Here, Toronto's AM 740 doesn't leave much room for anybody else. However, CHCM out of Marystown, Newfoundland sneaks in from time to time. I was really surprised to hear Korean coming over the booming Toronto signal...apparently I managed to snag Huntington, NY's WNYH, before they went to their much reduced night power pattern.

Currently, I'm hearing 'standards' underneath AM 740...any clues to where they may be coming from?
