Recipe for Di$a$ter?

It appears that at least some posters are playing under the assumption that all of the air talent on KD-FM is pulling down a fulltime salary. I don't believe that to be the case.

KD will go after PBP contracts when they come up. They probably can't get the Steelers or the Pens since both are happy where they are. The Pirates are another matter and so too might Pitt.

Its not unusual for these CBS sports stations to continually blow up shows hoping for some traction. I suspect the present lineup won't make it to the opening of Steeler camp.

Snafu--good point. Most likely to be "blown up" IMHO is the morning show. I would look to them to ax Alexander and bring in a former Steeler for football season. I don't "ABC on CBS" is really making them smile at the corporate offices.

Anyone see those February numbers? 93.7 plunges a over share and a half 6+. WKST up to their highest numbers in quite some time.

Good call, CBS!

irrelavent. Let's see the demos especially male 18-49. Remember. Sports stations don't necessarily have the highest ratings. However, their revenue is a different story.

Frankly, I'm impressed with the lineup on the Fan. I have found myself listening only to them and forget about Chris Mack, who is on the verge of totally destroying the "DRIVE." I must admit, New York Vinney is a little too New Yorky for me. I think it will be bye-bye for WEAE.....

I would read almost nothing into Feb, for starters the format flip was in the middle of the month so I don't know what you could expect out of two weeks of a music format (where part of the time they were telling listeners to go to another station) followed with two weeks of a completely different format. Did some B 94 listeners go to Kiss? Most assuredly they did, that was the station closest in format to B 94. It was also a station that was consistently kicking B 94s backside in ratings (and revenue). CBS could continue down the path with B 94, though to continually do the same thing and expect a different result would be the definition of insanity, or they could opt to try to chase a different demo, which seems to be what they are doing here. Will it work? I don't know, my crystal ball is in the shop but I would not be basing the viability of a format on how it did in two weeks time.

Too early to tell anything.

The Big Ben story hit the first week of March, and it will make a difference when that timeframe is represented.

In a way, The Fan has benefited from some fortuitous events (from its point of view, anyway).
  • RMU wins its conference in basketball, Pitt finishes 2nd in the Big East regular season (after being predicted to be mediocre at best), and WVU wins the Big East tourney. All three make it to March Madness, and WVU is still playing.
  • The Steelers are more active than usual in free agency, and Big Ben's situation alone is good for at least a half hour out of every shift.
  • The Penguins are tied for the lead in their division, and should do well again in the playoffs.
  • Even the Pirates have cooperated, what with the statement about starting a dynasty.
Nothing helps a talk station more than having topics to talk about.

Ratings Question: Would 93.7 show up in "out-of-market" ratings books, such as Wheeling and Morgantown, or do the ratings for each market only show stations actually in that market? (Assuming, of course, that the ratings were high enough to be counted.)

Yes.
