Reciva Stream URL search page going away in January

It's hard to imagine individual manufacturers with radios incorporating Reciva technology will have the resources or inclination to provide this service going forward. This site was also helpful for those just wanting to get the direct stream URLs to plug into their computer-based player software. Are there any alternatives out there?

Open Chrome Developer Tools on your computer and find the URL yourself. It only takes about 5-10 seconds once you know what to look for.

The problem with directories like Reciva, RadioStationWorld, vTuner, and thestreamcenter.com is that they easily become out of date when stations change streaming URLs or migrate to different streaming CDNs (streamtheworld, Akamai, etc). The process of updating the links is very tedious and I doubt there’s much of a revenue opportunity for the site operators.

I use the same method, but it has its own limitations, and some of the CDNs go out of their way to make it difficult. With Streamtheworld particularly it's more useful to find the PLS URL instead of the ones with a string of numbers at the beginning as those change frequently.

Streamtheworld URLs are the easiest to obtain if you know the station call letters. The URLs follow a pattern of http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/<call_letters>FMAAC.pls

The Reciva situation is even worse than I thought. Turns out they're going away entirely. A number of Wi-Fi radios depend on the platform, so their owners will have expensive doorstops. One of the main users of the platform (Grace Digital) is offering a trade-in program for older radios that will soon be completely unsupported.

This paragraph from one of the replies to the article makes a very important point:

My guess is that people in the “industry” assume that there is no real demand for WiFi radios — but to my mind, that is a failure of their imagination. One can program a WiFi radio to come on like a conventional radio at the press of a button. Unlike a tablet, smartphone or streaming TV, there is no scrolling, no tapping and no connecting of a charging cable or stand-alone bluetooth speaker required.
