Recommendation on wireless equipment

Hello all--

I wish to assemble a wireless network for the offices at our station. Actually, most computers would be wireless and one or two would connect with a network cable. This system would be used for the internet, for printing, and for some file sharing. I'm looking at the various routers. I received recommendations for D-link and Netgear. I've received mixed comments on Linksys.

Any suggestions on the above brands? Also, any learned "do's" and "don'ts" in putting this system together?

Thanks!

I work in the It support industry (if it can be called that): Stay away from Linksys! I used to recommend them to a lot of people and it caused me many headaches. They're not stable and have a tendency to freeze.

I've been using DLink and Netgear in my office and in some customers offices (even Doctor's offices where the nurses use tablet PCs and are constantly turned on & off and disconnecting & reconnecting to the wireless APs). The DLink routers and Access Points work solid and have never failed me. The Netgears seem somewhere between the Linksys reliability level and the DLinks...closer to Dlink I guess but they still have to be power-cycled occasionally.

Basically: I would recommend DLink over anything else that's affordable and easy to come by.

Thanks for the D-Link recommendation. Are you familiar with the Netopia routers, which are more expensive but built for a rugged business environment? A friend told me that he has been running one for well over a year now without any problem whatsoever....

Thanks again!

how many client computers will be using the system? This may or may not limit the choice of gear you could successfully use. A lot of the "prosumer/soho" gear starts acting real weird if you have a lot of computers or traffic on the system. Tell us your budget for this project and how many clients you anticipate and I can provide more info and recommendations to you.
