Record Labels ---- 1950's and 1960's

MUSIC DISCOGRAPHY -- a couple of years ago I "found" a website that
listed most of the record labels from the 1950's-1960's and the 78/45 RPM
releases on them by record number including "B" sides. I stupidly did not
make a note of its URL darn it!

Does anyone know of such a website?

Search engines have not helped me yet to find it.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. A discography of all the 1950s-60s record labels begins with a single label. I can get you started, at least. Buddy Holly, Lawrence Welk, Teresa Brewer and the McGuire Sisters are among the many artists who recorded for Coral. Here are all their 45s from 1949 through 1970:

:D ---- THANK YOU LaRadioRewind. I believe that is the website(s) that I saw a few years back. Even if it (they) aren't it (they) will do just nicely. BTW ... I have been a record label trivia nut for 50 years now. I once had a DJ pal of mine tell me that only DJ's give a damn about record labels ... the general listening public doesn't care. He was probably correct.

Have you ever heard of an obscure label known as "Columbia"? (Mitch Miller is probably cursing at me from the grave right about now. :D ) Here is an 86-page discography of Columbia 45s and EPs from 1949 to the present:

Mitch Miller kept Columbia in the dark ages until Bob Hammond and Clive Davis arrived.

Wasn't Holl(E)y on Coral and the Buddy Holly and the Crickets on Brunswick.... in reality it was probably just a contractual thing....Legend goes tha buddy's real name is Holley and was mis-spelled on "That'll be the day" and he kept it as Holly ?

record collectors are the most concerned about labels...

To LA Radio Rewind, disgusted I tuned to 1280 on our trip while searching for Beverly Hills station at 1260. Wonder if they still had that Standard format. Had high ratings for that frequency. Several yrs ago heard San Diego market station at 540. They were playing lot of 60's music but it's now Spanish. How about another anomaly, Rosie on Highland, Angel Baby, flip was recorded when she could not be in studio. How about Teddy Bears flip of To Know Him-----, Don't You Worry My Little Pet. What an unusual cut, a bit captivating I would say. If you ever find Jan & Arnie's 3rd release, I Love Linda, I know you'll enjoy it. Appreciate your knowledge.

Mister howardm, the 540 frequency from Tijuana is now Spanish-language talk. The 1260 frequency, which is located in Mission Hills but licensed to the ritzier-sounding Beverly Hills, is classical KMZT, "K-Mozart." On March 23, 2002, the old KGIL became KSUR, "The Surf," and aired an adult standards format, simulcasting with XESUR-540. (The first day was all Nat "King" Cole and the second day was all Frank Sinatra.) In 2004-05, the stations were known as "Oldies 1260 & 540" and had a 1500-song playlist covering 1954 through 1963. In 2006, the 1260 frequency became "Go Country" KKGO. A year later the country format was moved to 105.1 and the KMZT call letters and classical format were moved to 1260. For a short time in 2009, 1260 reverted to the original KGIL call letters and had a talk format, then switched to a mix of pop oldies and adult standards as "Retro 1260" before returning to the KMZT call letters and classical format. I trust all this is perfectly clear. ;)

Back on topic---finally!---here is an excellent Capitol Records 45-rpm discography:

That is a good one, I mentioned it back a page, but it doesn't seem to cover 45's.

Tons of national top 40 and many #1's were first released on independent/regional/local labels before they were picked up for national distribtuion by a bigger label ..

Question mark and the Mysterians - "96 Tears" was on Pa-Go-Go ...before it went national on Cameo/parkway.
J Frank Wilson - "Last Kiss" first on Le Cam, then Tamara, before it went national on Josie..

Is there a website for that info..from a collectors side, that's what i want to find.

i would have never gueesed that.....Disco Duck On a Stax sub..

By that point, CBS owned Stax, so it wasn't on a Stax sub. It was on a label owned by one of the people who founded Stax years before.

Gotcha, yes, I misread his statement.
