Recycled Commercials

I don't understand why companies keep recycling old commercials. Here's a list of some recycled commercials:

1. The AT&T Commercial where the Dad is looking for an internet cord.

2. The Commercial for Yoplait Yogurt where the lady says to the cake "There's no such thing as a 'bear sheriff".

3. The Commercial for Sears Optical where the lady mistakes a skunk for her cat.

4. And of course every Christmas The M&M's Commercial with the M&M Guys/Santa Claus "They Do Exisisit."

or the new ones from Pepsi which make fun of the fact that Coca Cola always
recycles their commercials (Santa Claus and animated polar bears switching to Pepsi)

Given the fact that you can't copyright Santa Claus or a polar bear....brilliant!

I like the bear sheriff girl. She has been on so many cute commercials and she's had several TV series that didn't do too well.

I noticed Kia Soul has been recycling the hamsters in their wheels. Given that cars are so boring these days and never change, I guess that works.

I'm seeing the "happy school year" spot for (I think) Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats again. Keeps 'em full, keeps 'em focused. Only now, one of the frosted mini-wheat characters is wearing a little 2011 party favor hat or something.

The "Bear Sheriff" Yoplait commercial never really went away. It just hasn't gotten much airtime lately

Cheers :D

New commercials are just boring. Are the people in focus groups that dull and boring. The new Oreo cookie commercial comes to mind. They stretch the dull script to make it 30 seconds. Note no more boring office people doing commercials.

I like seeing the old commercials also. Many are still broadcast in Ozzie & Harriett
episodes. Sometimes they are better than the show.

Many of the old Petticoat Junction and similar programs have a tube of toothpaste
or coffee bag in the closing credits. I'm just glad that practice stopped. Can you
imagine how much clutter that would be today? But some of the current shows
have about 5 production/syndication logos at the end........about the same thing.

Now that football season will soon be upon us, check out restaurant or television ads which feature large screen tv's either in the background or as part of the overall picture...no, it won't be NFL or even NCAA college football, nor even the CFL...but footage from the old USFL (United States Football League) has been used two plus decades after the league folded.

Last to use it on a national scale was Applebees' featuring ESPN's Chris Berman.

I think up until a few years ago Staples was still showing their back to school ad with "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" playing as the two kids, who have probably since graduated college, mope about the store.

Staples has since updated that commercial.

Obviously there is a reason companies and corporations use the same commercials, after all we're still able to remember. The number one rule of a commercial is if you can get the consumer to remember your commercial you've done your job.

PSAs also get recycled. Certain ones like the goldfish childhood asthma won't stay retired even though there are better PSAs for that subject matter. I saw that ad earlier day and I couldn't believe they still air it. It has to be at least five years old because people have been complaining about its existence for that long.

Some of these commercials that usually only air around holidays have been redone in HD but with the same music and announcer while others still air same old commercials in SD and probably will for years

Was this before, during, or after his conflicting campaign with NutriSystem? ::)

Anyone know if the Tootsie Pop "Mr. Owl" commercial is still in rotation anywhere? I've seen it being played as late as the '90's - now, that's staying power.

Like a movie or a song that was a hit and produces good feelings for the listener or viewer, running a hit commercial isn't a bad idea.

Just thought of the "award winner" in this category: that original Life cereal commercial ("Hey, Mikey!")

That thing ran on and off for a couple of decades. I'm sure Mikey (the toddler in the high chair who likes Life cereal) was in this 20s by the time they stopped runnning that ad.

You haven't watched the stations I've been watching.

I keep seeing the same AMICA insurance commercials over and over. But the girls on those commercials are so cute so it doesn't really matter. There's one in particular where the AMICA girl seems to be Hispanic and points to a coffee mug whispering the company name just in case we didn't get the point.
