If there was ever a need for any proof that most winter storm stories are just the same old-same old, I give you the lead story on NBC10's 4 pm news today. It was an overview from an NBC affiliate about the current cold spell and snowy weather in the south and midwest. It all sounded and looked about right -- shots of buses struggling on a street and reports of heavy snow on the ground and more expected in Syracuse and Cleveland etc. -- but it was from LAST MONDAY. The giveaways: 1) the narrator says "with still more than 2 weeks until the first day of winter (it's now about a week away) and 2) "the president commented on the snow during a stop today in Winston-Salem" and showed Obama's joke about snow in Carolina (that was LAST Monday).
Who at the station vets this stuff? Obviously no one. And I'm sure I was in a teeny tiny minority of viewers who noticed.
Is someone at the station saying, "We don't have a good package on the storm. Oh well, we'll just rack last week's package."
