Red Jones retires

2008 Career Achievement Georgia Radio Hall of Famer Red Jones has announced his retirement after 63 years in radio. He's been morning man on WKNG in Tallapoosa for the past 10 years.

Red is a great guy and he will be greatly missed. I wish him well in his retirement. I can't think of another person who knows so much about the legendary country music that he plays on a daily basis.

Enjoy your retirement, Red!

I was the contract engineer for B92 (WBTR, Carrollton)back when Red did mornings. We used to love to hear him do the station calls....Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee92......Double U Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - T -R..........
He was old school and a true classic - did mornings at WQXI 790AM when I was a kid....and, like Bobbybeth said, is a great guy.
Enjoy it, Red!

I remember Red most fondly from the old WFOM days where we record promo guys used to gather Monday afternoons to promote our "future" hits (actually bow and scrape) before the "Godfather" (the late Jimmy Davenport). Late 60's-early 70's. Interesting times! Often we'd have to audition our product over the din of the C-5-A's constantly taking off and landing at adjacent Dobbins.

I remember those days fondly. Red Jones, Garry Kinsey, Pete owen and who could forget "Country" Jack Jackson. I enjoyed working there with those guys.

Red's final broadcast will be this Wednesday. Red does radio "old school" and his style is definitely unique. WKNG streams online at wkng.com if anybody would like to go back in time with Red on his final two broadcasts.

Ol' Red... enjoy the first days of the rest of your hard-earned life... starting today!
