Red-letter day I let get away

Nov. 8, 1965 on two counts: "Days Of Our Lives" debuted
that day, but also because sometime in the wee hours of
Nov. 7-8 Dorothy Kilgallen of "What's My Line?" died of an
apparent drug overdose. As I think has been pointed out
in the distant past, several days earlier she had taped an
appearance as an impostor on "To Tell The Truth," which
was broadcast that day on CBS at 3 PM (ET). Douglas Edwards'
newscast followed at 3:25, and he mentioned Kilgallen's
passing--maybe the first network anchor to do so.

It would be interesting to know what really happened to her.
I have heard that she had been to Dallas, interviewed Jack Ruby
in his cell, and was working on a story which might have set the
record straight on the whole JFK assassination story. But there
seems to have been no forced entry into her apartment to steal
any documents or rough copy, so I suppose we'll never know what
she knew.

I was just a mere lad when all these events took place. At the time I had no idea of ramifications of JFK's death or the events that followed. My, Mother, however, did keep close tabs on all the "coincidences" of the fate of Ms. Kilgallen and other individuals involved in JFK's assassination, that met similar early deaths. I remember she & my Dad discussing their suspicions.
I think a lot of people at the time never bought the explanations of his death by the government.

The East Coast blackout happened the next day. Coincidence?
