Red Sox and Entercom close to new deal

It was said CBS did at least explore the idea of getting Sox rights...for WBZ 1030. Lots of pre-emptions for Dan Rea, etc...

WBZ would make more money in one baseball game than two weeks of Dan Rea, but an AM station would not be good for the Red Sox or their advertisers. No advertiser in 2016 cares about coverage in 38 states. Baseball already suffers from an aging problem and doesn't need to be on a station whose audience is primarily 55+. This is a big win for WEEI and the team.

The interesting thing at $15 million per season in rights is that only 5 Boston stations bill more than $15 million, and none bills over $26 million. So it would be interesting to see the analysis that was made to justify this deal.

I would imagine a 63 station network offsets the obscene cost of this some.

How much is WBZ-FM paying for the Patriots ?
