Red Sox on WEEI AND WRKO??

I must've missed the memo, but having the Red Sox on WEEI and WRKO has to be the DUMBEST thing I have ever seen. What justification could there POSSIBLY be to do this? Both stations are 50Ks.

Stupid radio station tricks.

I saw a schedule; it's today and April 10 only. The idea I guess is to make sure people
know WRKO is the flagship station but WEEI does have games, too: on Wednesday nights, and afternoon
weekday games. Dice-K's major league debut is Thu. I believe and it'll be on WEEI.

Will Pundit Review have on that up and coming blogger "38Pitches"? (hint: he started yesterday's game...)

97.7 / 107.3 Stupid radio station tricks !

I wonder if the sales departments for WEEI and WRKO can "double charge" the RED SOX NETWORK because they're duplicating the broadcast on 2 different frequencies on April 10th. Doesn't this mean they can sell the commercial avails to different advertisers? ???

38Pitches better worry more about pitching than blogging :D

The oft-mentioned quip yesterday (Tuesday) was, 'Curt had better start jogging and stop blogging.'

Someone tell the Herald, btw, that WTAG is no longer on the Red Sox network (it's now WCRN and WVEI (AM) )
and I don't think the WGIR triad of stations have the Sox either, yet today's paper listed them

It is stupid.

And the idea of having the English broadcasts of the Red Sox spread across 2 stations is stupid. There should be one home for the Sox, not two.

are there still Spanish language Sox broadcasts?

Allegedly there are, on WROL 950--btw for those times when the Sox are on WEEI, like last night and the next 2 afternoons, it's referred to as the WEEI Red Sox Radio Network, not WRKO. This despite the fact that on a couple occasions last month when WRKO had the Red Sox down in Florida and WEEI carried the Celts, the intro, etc.
on the latter called it the "WRKO Celtics Network"

from wrolradio.com: "WE ARE THE HOME OF THE SPANISH RED SOX. Click on the Red Sox Logo for More info. Advertise with the home of the Boston Red Sox in Spanish you are sure to get noticed!!!!"

a waste of good air time.
====================================

Actually, Entercom is very good at doing just that...wasting air time

Tuned in to H.C. for the first time in a long time (Howie adds new meaning to First Time, Long Time) and it was a terrible interview about a book BLACK IRISH. Then Howie said he was going to talk about The Bulgers. Ho Hum.
Waste of good airtime?

At least when The Sox are on both WEEI and WRKO those on the fringe who can't get rko might be able to
get EEI and vice versa. Why doesn't Entercom just broadcast The Sox on all their properties? MIKE FM,
EEI, RKO, both AAF stations? This would make sense since they don't know how to program radio to begin with. Just Keep It Simple & Stupid.

What does not make any sense...is to promote all winter long that WRKO is the new Red Sox station...and then at the beginning of the season...to put the Red Sox on WEEI. Talk about confusing the audience. Either put the Sox on RKO or EEI...but to do both or one a week on some games..others on even days, at night when it is cloudy, if it snows in May....and what about the second Friday of the week ?

So, are they going to continue referring to the network as the "WEEI Red Sox network"? Because that's what I heard last night. Shouldn't it be the WRKO Red Sox network?

The whole thing is an unbelievably bad move. Entercom absolutely ran WRKO into the side of a mountain and the excuse is always that they're paying so much for the Red Sox. Yet one of the few good things they've done in the market is to establish WEEI as the region's sports leader. So, what do they do? They take WEEI's signature sporting event (Sox baseball) and plunk it on an issues-based talker (WRKO) - leaving WEEI with the low rated leftovers (Celtics).

And, NOW they continue to confuse the audience by having games on WEEI and by plugging WEEI as the flagship station when (supposedly) it's not. Please, please, someone explain this to me. ???

Where does Entercom get the idiots who program these stations? Does the job description require an IQ of less than 90? Incredible.

Believe it or not I honestly think they will refer to them by whatever station is running them in Boston, so by Saturday expect them to say WRKO again. I know, weird.

Varulven's suggestion is good about putting it on all their properties or maybe just one more: so if they gotta have them on either WRKO or WEEI, put them on 93.7 as well...though that may upset the WBOQ people
(since WMKK's tower is up on the North Shore, too, and it would steal away from them...?)

As for Howie I always find him interesting and the latest 12 plus shows WRKO is doing well, better than WTKK.
I would suggest they replace Finneran ASAP and maybe try some other syndie offerings at night when Sox
aren't on (prog talk people, here's your chance: would you rather hear Savage or Stephanie? Doyle or
Schultz? let WRKO know you're out there. Am not quite into either Savage or Doyle, preferring Ingraham.
But mostly "BIG PAPI STRIKES AGAIN!" is what WRKO is counting on...that is, when the games aren't on
WEEI instead because it's a Wednesday, or an afternoon, or there's an R in the month...)

By the way as far as putting it on diff. stations (Red Sox) is concerned, they want to spread around promos
for their shows I'd think. So when you tune to the Sox on 'RKO you'll hear promos for the Felon, Fineburg,
or Carr; on 'EEI, for D&C, Big Show, Dale&Holley, etc.
Would it be too much trouble for them to run promos for either-or? So even if you're listening on WRKO
they could still run a promo for a WEEI show. And vice versa.

raccoon, i was clearly being facetious with the "Broadcast the Red Sox on all Enterscamm Properties" quip...BUT, upon reflection, it would be a good move for them. Who would you rather hear - Castiglione or Finneran? ...hmmm...that one IS debatable.

off topic:
Hey, when is my aircheck going up on your site? My big moment on college radio...

If Finneran and Castiglione were on the same time slot, it would be a debatable point :)
btw I think Planet Mikey is now ending at 11 pm and they're putting on someone like John Rish (sp.?)
for that last hour. In the case of last night since the game ended around 11:20 or so, Rish
went till 1 am, sparing the listeners one hour of the biggest yankee fan around.

your aircheck will go up as soon as I get to it--this is mega busy time at the P.O. with tax mail/Easter
cards/ and we've been shorthanded recently. So I'm kinda pooped from all that and haven't had much
time to do online stuff (some OT as well)...and doing various other projects etc. hopefully soon

Speaking of WRKO, how soon will it be before we stop guessing that they've screwed up and KNOW FOR A FACT that they have? I guess the infamous 'ratings book' will tell the story of a once-proud station that gave away its identity and its audience.
