RED SOX STATION FOR 2013

FM only. No simulcast on 850..they said that in Oct. when 850 went
all ESPN. Though maybe a situation of C's playoffs at
same time as Sox could put C's on FM,Sox on AM.

Sox will be still on WBOQ 104.9. They return to
WPKZ 1280 and 105.3 Fitchburg. In Burl VT new
Station is WCPV 101.3..had been WJOY 1230 for
decades. There is no 'JOY in Mudville

I mentioned the change to them on their facebook. Webpage folks
will update eventually. WPKZ wasn't offered Sox last yr
and took Yankees but are back now.

How much longer does WEEI have the rights? Would Sports Hub ever go after the Sox? Having 2 sports stations on FM would probably drive up the price which would make Red Sox ownership happy.

Isn't the WEEI-FM signal kind of crummy around Dedham-Canton-Braintree?

The station seems to cut pretty bad S/SW of the city.

They do transmit from Peabody, right? And not that high up, from what I understand.

So (I believe) the Blue Hills and the skyline cuts them up in a lot of that direction, whereas 850 AM is strong in that area day and night.

103.7 may be option S/SW of city

Contract ends around 2016...Ent. renewed for 10 yrs sometime in May of 06; they had RKO as flagship w some games on EEI starting in '07. Debut of 98.5 led EEI to take most games (09) then FM move in Sep of 11.

8/25/09--Sox went back to EEI--about 2 wks after Sports Hub debut. 850 needed shoring up!

>>(may of 06)The Red Sox' existing radio deal with all-sports station WEEI expires after the 2006 season, and the team has been taking bids from radio stations for a new deal. Several weeks ago, the Globe reported that the Red Sox were negotiating with WBOS to take an ownership stake in the station. Though WBOS appeared to be the favorite this week, the deal apparently fell through at the last minute.Meanwhile, rival Entercom has all along offered the Sox two options for their radio deal: Extend with WEEI, or switch to WRKO. As of right now, the Sox appear likely to go to WRKO. The games would give a boost to the station, which has trailed WEEI in the ratings

ETM's deal is awfully rich, still escalating and was done in a pre-recession economy. I think it is safe to say that the Sox rights fee will probably reach their apex in the final year of this deal. I suppose TSH could try and put a dagger in WEEI by outbidding them, but the cost would make it a pyrrhic victory. In the 90's, TV38 tried to corner the broadcast PxP market with Sox, Celts and B's, but what you end up with is a glut of spots to sell making each entity less profitable. TSH might find the same problem if they tried Sox, B's and Pats. Also, I believe they need to redo their Pats deal after this year and I suspect that Mr. Kraft will drive a hard bargain before renewing.

Yes, the 93.7 FM transmitter is in Peabody, close to Exit 46 (US Route 1 South) of I-95 South. I remember that it would wipe out nearly everything on my Walkman there, even on "LOCAL" ("CITY") mode.

As for heading south or southwest from Boston, 103.7 of Westerly/Providence becomes an option. I think their transmitter is down by Exeter, RI, since I sometimes get a weak signal of it here in central Connecticut.

As for my area, WTIC-AM 1080 of Hartford will be airing them for the (I think?) 52 straight year. However, there's an occasional day game that they may not carry. Meanwhile, we'll have the Yankees for the second straight year on WUCS-FM 97.9 of Windsor Locks/Hartford (97.9-ESPN). WPOP-AM 1410 (Fox Sports Radio) of Hartford will likely carry the New Britain Rock Cats (AA-level Minnesota Twins) once again.
