So has he just lost interest in doing radio, or is he just simply getting old? I don't hear any enthusiasm in his voice at all like I did back in the Q-102 days. And is he doing an afternoon radio show or a week-long promotion for In-the-studio? He definitely doesn't sound like the professional that we all know he is on Lonestar. He kind of reminds me of Kasey Kasem. His voice is really bad according to what I've heard on Mix.
 
All the jocks seem bored as hell or happy to mail it in. Bo & Jim aren't doin bits. Jon Dillon's been a liner card reader since he came back to ZPS. Redbeard is as monotone as ever. Lonestar had that huge splash....then not much else in the way of buzz after that. I applaud them for trying something different, but if you raid the old folks home for an air staff....you're not gonna get much excitement.
 
I smell undeclared motive in the above posts. I find nothing wrong with Redbeard's delivery. It's relaxed and unobtrusive.
And as far as the format, Wednesday Redbeard played a live version of Small Town, which I greatly enjoyed.. then followed it with Box Of Rain, a wonderful Grateful dead song I never thought I would hear on the radio again. I'm hooked, and although 4 out of 5 songs aren't to my liking, I'll check back every time I get in the car. Sure, it's a little weird hearing ring of fire segue into George Thourogood, but it's compelling. If you don't tune in, you might miss something exquisite.

but if you do tune in, you'll hear Redbeard telling that story about Mellencamp's garage once a week or so. Yesterday was the 3rd time I've heard it. Now I DID hear a damn fine version of Robert Cray's "Right Next Door" recorded here in Dallas after that. Speakin of the Dead....it's about time he played the clip from "on an upcoming edition of In The Studio" of the guys talking about why the hated studio albums. I've only heard that one twice in the last month or so and I don't listen everyday. And after that, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd will tell us how they used to drink whiskey and run around back in the 70's. Do people really care??? I understand Redbeard's reputation....but it's almost like these old, dead stations we pine for...the decades old memories maybe should remain memories.
 
Yeah, yeah... but I'd rather hear that than More Than A Feeling, or Night Moves, or the other 298 songs the Classic Rock format has burned to ashes over the past two decades. Hearing an album track from a popular artist can be like meeting a long lost friend. If not, the Bone is just up the dial.
 
I think 'Beard doing just fine. I may sound biased cause I know the guy and think he is a pretty cool dude. Very knowledgeable and I think the format allows him to do somethings a little more adventureous musically than he was able to do at Q102. Have always enjoyed In The Studio, glad to hear him back on the airwaves......

I rarely (if ever) listen to 92.5 after "the change", but I have caught Redbeard
on occasion. Not being a DFW native, I don't remember his supposed "glory
days" on the Q. But he does sounds tired, bored, and ready to fall asleep. Maybe
that's just his relaxed nature. I don't know. But I got the same impression with
Jon Dillon before the change. Tired and bored. But honestly, after he's played
a Zeppelin tune for the ten thousandeth time, and repeated his stories hundreds of
times, I would be bored out of my mind too.

On a separate note, poor Kasey. He was my idol growing up. Now, he just sounds
BAAAAD.... :( Just like poor Dick Clark.....and Jack Buck before he passed away
....very sad.....
 
I reckon it all boils down to age and health. One of our sportscasters at KEOM, is undergoing a similar situation. He can get by the first hour or so, but then he starts sounding tired. I've heard him sound somewhat exhausted at the end of some broadcasts as well.

It sucks, but that's life.

He doesn't sound bad to me...but even if he did, I'd take a bored, tired Redbeard over about 90% of what's out there any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

I could take him or leave him. I like the little tidbits of trivia I get from the artists (like when the guys from Lynyrd Skynyrd had to fight to get their third guitar player) in the interviews, but I could do without him on the air, just fine.

As far as B&J, I think they have had their wings trimmed for the new format. It is now about the music, more than them. I would like to see them have the freedom they had at the Q back "in the day"...
 
Beard sounds like Beard. I had my doubts about the Lonestar format, but, I have to admit, it's grown on me. I really like the mix of classic rock with the renegade Texas country stuff. Made me stop listening to the Wolf. Made the Bone obsolete, too. Bo and Jim rock!

An excellent observation from someone who is an expert on sounding bored and tired. At least Redbeard treats his co-workers well.

Just for fun.... I'd like to know how many Led Zeppelin concerts RedBeard remembers attending ? ?
