Reds in Spanish

According to All Access, 2 upcoming Reds games will be broadcast in Spanish on 1360 Homer. The games will be against San Francisco, with Francisco Romero and Gil Heredia being the Spanish language versions of Marty and Joe/Steve.
______________

maybe CC is testing a Spanish Reds broadcast as a possible lead into a flip of Mix to spanish

HUH?

MIX go Spanish? The station has rebounded numbers-wise and is a low-cost money maker.

If anything, HOMER will go to 1530 and 1360 will go Spanish. Even that's a long shot, though. The BUZZ and WTSJ are doing Sunday evening Spanish programming. Why doesn't WCIN go Spanish? They've got nothing else going on there.

CC is putting its Hurbans on FM. Hurban on 1360 would do no good. so either Mix or Fox will get bounced is CC has the urge to go Hurban in Cincy. WEBN and Kiss aint Going No WHere anytime Soon

Re: HUH?

Mike, I don't know what the hispanic population of Cincy is, but blowing up Mix to go Spanish..chances are somewhere between slim and none.
______________

Re: HUH?

Is there a large enough hispanic population in the Cincy metro to support an FM spanish station? I know Columbus has one but according to US Census stats, their hispanic population is 2.5% compared to 1.3% in Cincy.

Per US Census Bureau:

2000
Cincinnati = 331,285 (city)
Hispanic population 1.3% (~4,300)

Columbus = 711,470 (city)
Hispanic population = 2.5% (~17,780)

There is no format flip emminent. XM carries various games in Spanish throughout the season and evidently these are two of the games that have been chosen in Cincinnati. Its part of MLB's deal with XM. I don't know why its being simulcast on Homer but maybe MLB or the Reds asked Clear Channel if they'd carry the Spanish broadcast as well locally since they'd probably have to feed it to XM. I could be wrong but don't see "Dos tipos enojados en 1360 Chollo el Animal de deporte"

IF CC Blows up a Station it will be either Mix or Fox before Touching Homer, CKY or The Big 4 of KRC, WLW, Kiss and EBN.

THe GIants Broadcast their Games in SPanish SO Why Not Doesnt XM just use the Giants Broadcast team instead of having to find 2 Announcers to Do the Game on the reds side of the Broadcast.

And slim just left town.

Total Cincinnati Market numbers

Mike,

Your numbers are based on the city to city comparison of Columbus and Cincinnati. Columbus is a bigger city population-wise because it has annexed pretty much all of Franklin County. Cincinnati is a little more than a third of Hamilton County's population. But, the Cincinnati market is bigger than Columbus. Despite that, I suspect that the Hispanic population in Columbus is larger.

The TOTAL Cincinnati market Hispanic population is close to 22,000. Almost 10,000 of those are in Hamilton County, with less than half in the city. The total includes Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, and Warren Counties in Ohio and Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties in Kentucky. There are another few hundred in SE Indiana market counties, plus other counties that are further south in Kentucky and to the east in Ohio.

I think a station with a fair signal could do OK with a Spanish format here, considering they'd get a relatively small cume, but probably big TSL.

That's why I say WCIN should go Spanish. They're not doing anything there, and their signal is right in the middle of Hamilton County and gets into Butler and Warren Counties. WNOP would also be a good candidate, but they won't drop Catholic programming.

What's interesting is that Cleveland has a Hisapnic population of over 50,000 in the market and I don't know of a Spanish station there. Is there one? Indy has two of them with a Hispanic population around 40,000. Both of them show up and total about a 1.5 share. Louisville and Lexington also have one station each, but they don't show up in Arbitron.

Politically incorrect promotions at Great American Ball Park might include free burrito night, win a chihuahua, free autographed photos of Cheech and Chong, Fernando Valenzuela look-a-like contest, shake-those-maracas-for-a-free-beer, first 5,000 paying fans 21 and older get a free giant size container of **** & Span, and finally, green (score) cards.

My assumption is that XM and MLB have hired play by play guys specifically for that channel. After all most MLB teams do not have their games in Espanol. XM's website sucks though so its hard to really know. Maybe I should sell my few shares of the stock in protest LOL

Well I Know the Reds, Brewers, Cubs, WHite Sox, Tigers, Indians, Braves, Twins, Royals, Orioles, Blue Jays, Nationals, Cardinals and Pirates are the Only Major League teams not to do at least a Partial Schedule of Games in Spanish. THe Blue Jays are the Only Team that i give a True Exemption to not having a Spanish Broadcast team because i really dont think there is much of a Hispanic Population in Toronto. there are probly more French Speaking people in Toronto

That is almost half of all teams that don't have Spanish broadcasts. I still haven't found out any info on who broadcasts the Spanish games on XM, maybe I'll just listen to the cast one day and see if I can catch the name.

You could do a stunt like I saw recently on WWE Wrestling....have the team ride onto the field on "Juan Deere" lawn mowers.
