Reduced play lists - Why?

Many of us are complaining of reduced play lists. I, too, have noticed the change and find it to be a significant negative. What's the possible point of reducing play lists? I can only imagine that it is related to reducing costs, but not knowing the licensing fees for playing tunes on the radio, I cannot say the reason is related to cost, especially when the stations still play the same amount of music (songs per day). If the reason is not related to cost, what can it possibly be? It is absurd to reduce play lists, as has been documented many times on these boards.

On a similar note, some channels, like BPM, have added old, tired songs to the play lists. Where BPM once played cutting edge dance hits, it now seems like a mash-up of the old Sirius Beat and a play list from the late '80s. Where is Alan Freed when you need him?

Sirius Soccer Mommy and Daddy feel comfortable with a familiar playlist.
This is ad free FM. It won't change. Either you like it or you don't. This is the model Mel is going with.
BPM sucks now.
1st Wave has a Cure weekend, big damn deal, more repeats !

Weren't 20 on 20 and The Blend, both with ultra-tight playlists, the top-rated stations on XM before the merger, according to Arbitron? People, by and large, are sheep, not particularly adventurous. Sirius has always believed that the average listener is irritated more by commercials than by repetition of generic, focus-group-tested feel-good music. Unfortunately, they're right.
