Reelradio.com's airchecks no longer free to listen

I noticed that Reelradio.com has turned into a suscription site where one has to
pay to hear the airchecks. Wonder how long will it be before the other sites with airchecks, or even the ones that feature video like TV-ARK will do the same.

I know it takes money to run a website, but in the case of Reelradio, wouldn't it have been better to keep the scoped airchecks free while make those who want to hear the whole thing ( unscoped ) to pay for it? That should take care of the music license right there.

If you read the letter on the site from the Board of Directors, they did it for a number of reasons, mostly to keep Richard Irwin from giving it up and being able to pay him a salary. On top of that, the expenses for bandwidth, music licenses, equipment, etc can be quite high. I'm not defending what they did, but the site has been around over 10 years and is quite successful. Now if you want FREE airchecks, then visit www.airchexx.com that Steve West runs, and I contribute too. Steve can tell you the amount of time, money and energy he has put into the site since he started it. There are plenty of aircheck sites out there, so if you don't want to listen to reelradio, visit some of the others, including airchexx.com.
______________

It requires a minimum donation of $12/year...that's a lot of entertainment for a very low price. If that keeps the site around, that's fine with me..and it's important that Unc recieve a salary at this point. I would probably keep a few airchecks free just as a sample, but it isn't my call.
______________
