ReelRadio Needs Help

Fans of Uncle Ricky's ReelRadio.com need to spread the word: reelradio needs help. Donations, sponsors ... any type of money. Otherwise its days may be numbered.

I'd hate to see this site go away.

I donated and never got any acknowledgment or log-in for the site. In fact, their page doesn't show anybody making donations past January 31, 2006. I think it's become worse since they've adopted their donation beg-a-thon and subscription requirements. I say it's time to let it die!

I'm glad I never shared any of my airchecks - I probably would have never received any acknowledgment on those either!

Did you ever write to ask why not? I've always gotten almost instant replies.

Wrote -> received no reply -> lesson learned. I shouldn't have to write - he got his money out of me ... but never again!

I'd rather donate to Scott Fybush instead. At least Scott's a more honorable man.

"He" didn't get ANY money from you. The nonprofit did, as long as it actually got processed.

Sorry you feel that way. I hope you never make mistakes yourself.

"He", "they", or "whomever" could have at least sent an acknowledgement even if "they" were going to screw me out of a login to the aircheck library. To totally blow off a patron shows no concern for the patron and that their only concern is for collecting funds. And yes, the contribution did get processed as I can look in my online transaction summary and see the payment was successfully posted to them.

There's an old adage: burn me once, shame on you - burn me twice, shame on me! To not acknowledge the donation, ok I can (maybe) see that, but to totally ignore an email from a patron donator, that's inexcusable. I contribute to other local and long-distance concerns and they all have been more responsive (and responsible for that matter). In fact, my own web radio station operates on listener contributions and I write a personal thank you email for each and every contribution - even when the amount is so small that the deduction of fees incurred makes the net contribution worth only pennies!

Well I better not ever donate to public television because KCET charged me twice and never acknowledged nor fixed the problem. They must be nothing but thieves over there.

Not sure what I missed when I checked the site, I saw the "Attention Advised" that when you clicked went to the announcement of the change to subscription, but nothing that said demise was imminent. I do want to see Reelradio continue (I've got a bunch of CKLW airchecks to listen to!).

I see no indication that they are in trouble...at this time, anyway. The change to subscription (in order to listen or comment) is recent. But I thinkReel Radio is a great resource, and I'd be willing to donate a little more -within strict limits of my middle-class 3 kid supporting income, of course. Though there are other sites with airchecks dedicated to specific stations or geographic regions, reelradio has got to be the largest collection, and the cost is minimal. When I subscribed, I received my access and password - if somebody else didn't get theirs, it was probably an unfortunate oversight...as far as I know, it's a one-man labor of love operation.

GR8:

Contact me for some CKLW airchecks ... mostly pre 1971 when the station was ruined by the imposition of Cancon Regulations. I worked there as an OP in the late winter/spring of 1970.

Also, are you the same Gr8oldies on the OTS DJ Forum too?

Contact me at [email protected] about he CKLW airchecks.

The OTS DJ Forum is for users of the OTS DJ program ... avery nice little automation program made for disco type jocks but it is also in service with a nuimber of radio stations. Before my retirement from the biz last December, I was President of a company that owned a small stand-alone FM but the competition for sales up against the big boys left me in a position where I eventually sold out. Contract says I stay out of ownership for 5 years.

In my opinion, CKLW from about '65 to '71 was the finest station that ever sent audio down a broadcast line to the transmitter and I was very fortunate to have worked there ... even as a "lowly operator" you had the feeling you were a part of something REALLY huge. Sort of like being the sailor who is the one who actually drives some huge battleship.

Same here. ReelRadio is a great site but my only problem is that they are limited to CHR. I have yet to find any dececnt classic aircheck sites that include non-top 40 airchecks. I especially am interested NYC rock stations like WPLJ, WNEW-FM, WLIR, WQIV, etc but can't find anything.

Being a West Coast guy, I'm not familiar with the East Coast FM rockers, but there are quite a few websites devoted to West Coast stations like KSAN in San Francisco, so it stands to reason that there are simiilar sites for stations on the East Coast. In the case of KSAN, one of the stations former jocks keeps the site going - I think I found it by googling the call letters
