Reese Hopkins Fired - More cuts at WEEI/WRKO

Yes just saw this. While I am glad that Laura will now get 2 hours on a Boston station (though she's
also on WCRN Worc. & Beverly's WNSH), it's two fewer hours of local talk on 'RKO. 'TKK added three
hours of "local" talk with Curtis Sliwa--though I get the feeling that he soon may be launched nationwide
by Citadel. (During the debates, WABC simulcast WTKK's Sliwa show and I think Sliwa may be permanent
on 'ABC weeknights now or soon will be, so WTKK's "local"
show may soon go national).

Anyone think charges of racism will be leveled at E-com with the firing of Hopkins? (They do have a black
co-host on sister station WEEI late mornings though with Michael Holley--though it's sports)
Someone on freerepublic says Hopkins ratings actually had improved

No way. Reese is a conservative, he understands business. Generally conservatives don't level bogus racism charges (as liberals are known to do).

True, and I don't suspect he'd level bogus racism charges, but I wonder if _others_ will. Hmm, ACLU...?
Black radio host fired? Oh wait-he's a conservative. Nothing to see here, move along :)

Entercom has no clue how to have a budget. Fineran makes more than a few producers plus Scotto combined and the ratings have not risen. Then they spend tons to beef up wee.com where is the increase in revenue?

Reese is still on the WRKO site...Trying to get Herald article up again, not co-operating...but Herald does say that
Jay Severin isn't going on that "rude' Don Imus' show anymore...

Reese isn't just African American but he's Jewish too! However, I don't think he could claim bias because so many others were let go at the same time.

Damn I liked Reese's show, at least from what little I heard of it.

I think it's time they get my favorite show on board. Money Matters would fit the local live bill well.

I hope Reese hooks up somewhere else in the Boston Area.Maybe take Pathetic Jimmy Myers' or the Fat Guy from Boston's spot on WTKK.Maybe replace him with Finneran or Savage's spot on WRKO.Entrecom cans him as he was just starting to get his feet wet and was steadily building an audience for himself.I thought Reese was refreshing. He had the balls to take on Obama lackeys who can give slander but cry racism whenever it's time to take a little criticism.Totally unique guy.

WRKO isn't falling it has fell. The station that at one time had a very good morning show, Gene Burns, Jerry Williams and David Brudnoy sounds like one of those tiny suburban stations that runs canned talk programs 24 hours a day.

I wouldn't want to be e member of the RKO sales department these days.

i must say, though i know nothing about this guy, he's handled his firing with a lot of class. usually someone gets let go they've got something bad to say about the company that let him go-especially if they think they are on an up book. i'd almost be worried with how cooperative and understanding he is about the situation.

Interesting that Entercom hoodwinked the staff into a decertification vote against AFTRA, then as people left and were fired WRKO began it's painful plunge.

The News/Talker fired its entire News Staff and now is swinging the axe everywhere! So how many top quality broadcasters, even those out of work, are even giving Entercom a second thought these days? No one that I know.

Julie tells the remaining staff don't worry about your 401K because you're young enough to make it back, then brags about her upcoming (relatively expensive) LASIK surgery? Not only brainless and heartless but points to a practice of hiring only young inexperienced (cheap)personnel outside of their marque players.

Nice.

Entercom stock opened today at $1.31 and closed at $1.04 then lost .02 in after hours trading, that's a 20.61% loss! Brilliant

I've already learned more about current events from just two days of Laura's show than I did the whole time Reese was on. Will Mr. Hopkins be able to get tips on what to do with his weekends without his radio show now?

I enjoyed Reese too. I hope he lands somewhere and does well for himself. Kudos to him for handling the situation with class.
