Ref - Wackradio, please more info on 1580 WYFA

I would like to take this moment to thank everyone who posed on the Radio-Info message board under the Long Island section with reference to WYFA. I truly appreciate all your comments and hope I've updated everything correctly. Although I never had the pleasure to work at 1580 when it was WYFA, I have wonderful memories of the station when Jack & Dottie Ellsworth ran it as WLIM.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with additional updates or information that I may have overlooked or was unaware of. I'm always eager to hear from you! Thank you all once again!

Your Buddy Rick (The Original Babylon Cowboy)

The Owner of WYFA was Perry Silver not Pete Silvers.

Your welcome, Perry Silver is heard on the Aircheck that was posted. He's the VO on most of the commercials, a few had Steve Harper (he used his real name Lauren Harper at WYFA) and Scott Taylor doing the VOs. When the station 1st went on the air Perry Silver was pretty much doing everything, Owner, GM, GSM, Account Executive, to actually hitting up business' to advertise. Eventually he hired sales people and talent from WLIX-AM when it flipped from MOR to Christian.

I think you'll find that Steve Harper worked at WYFA under the name 'Vaughn' Harper. He was the pride and joy of Jim Saunders (Gene Healy). Saunders talked about him with great pride when he was programming WRIV in the early 1980s. I understand from my youngest son that Steve is very willing to impart his experiences on younger people interested in radio. That is very refreshing to hear and is an excellent reflection on him.

No It was definately Lauren Harper, we were both active in an organization run by Brookhaven Town's Youth Bureau that produced a show called Brookhaven Youth TV shown on Brookhaven Cable. We were still in High School at the time I believe Lauren went to Centereach High. I remmeber he would occasionaly take some ribbing for having a "girls name". Ah, High School how cruel kids can be. As for Vaughn Harper he was one of the hosts of "The Quiet Storm" on WBLS and may still be on the air in NYC.
