Reflecting back...

What was the reason behind the decision to tear down KILT back in the day?

I mean, if I recall correctly they were still leading in the ratings over 93Q although it was dwindling.

I just can't see the reasoning behind it, especially with what they have now and the ratings in the crapper.

Thanks!

But I thought KILT just brought in a new guy from Dallas, KSCS...I have yet to notice any change.

A one man morning show?
Still, lots of commercials and very little personality.

Which KILT??? The top 40 or the country version?

I don't know specifically what happened in Houston, but I suspect it was similar to what happened in Dallas. Gordon McLendon's KLIF Dallas slipped in ratings primarily due to competition from his own FM station KNUS. Stereo music on FM pretty much doomed AM top-40, and McLendon owned KILT in Houston was probably driven under by increasing competition from KRBE. It was around 1980 or 1981 when the music died on KILT. I turned it on one morning - heard country music - and tuned it out for the final time. I doubt there are that many people left in Houston that associate the call letters KILT with anything but country - but those call letters have a proud legacy of being a part of the McLendon top-40 stations, and great stations they were!

The New 93Q whips the pants off The Bull and it shows in the ratings. 52 minutes of Q Country every hour! Much better than The Bull 100.3, which is a lot of commercials and a tight playlist rotation, which CBS is known for.
