Wow - Bwana Jimmy?
I grew up in Waynesboro - my family owns WABO there. Used to hear Jimmy on WJDQ - one of my radio heroes.

Anyway, yes, the glory days of radio before de-regulation turned radio from being an artform to strictly money.

I am the GM at WUSM, USM's station in Hattiesburg, and I teach radio production when I am not writing my dissertation. I urge my students to bring actual personalities back to radio; personalities is the only thing that differentiates the radio from an iPod.

Jboyd isn't "Bwana" Jimmy Boyd. "Bwana" Jimmy passed away some years ago. Jboyd is a long time station owner / engineer extraordinaire in N. Mississippi.

Wow... good ole WUSM! It was a 10 watt FM with different call letters when I was there in the early 80's. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago... time sure flies!

Yeah - I did a bit if research myself out of curiosity after I posted and saw that Bwana Jimmy had passed away.

Sorry for the mistaken identity.

And WUSM is all of 3kW these days; still a challenge to get people to trudge down to the left end of the dial.

Please don't take offense to what I'm about to say but I really get tired of seeing nothing but "back in my day we..." posts on here. It seems like all we talk about here is what radio was like years ago and how it should return to those ways (to a degree I agree), etc. However, the reality is this:

Hi Jo, "back in my day we..." Caught My Attention Very Quick. When I See That Phrase I'm Sure To Read.
Board Has A Wealth Of Contributors That Pass On Their Knowledge To The Younger Generation. JBI Can Tell You Station Transmitter Manufacturers, Wattage Of Light In Station Restroom, Who Was Where & When, When Station Went On Air W/ Owner Info & Everything.
Never Close Your Mind To Knowledge Expansion.
I Personally Want To Know All The Mississippi Broadcast History That I Can't Get Anywhere Else.
