Rumor has it Bob Dakin is back with the company, this time as the new DOS in Utica. What does this mean for Regent, and the other clusters in this market?

What company isn't for sale at the right price?

I find it hard to believe that one GM would hire another former GM to work below her. If I were the GM, I, for one, would not want to be constantly wondering if that person is trying to unseat me so they could become a GM once again. Once someone has that kind of power, it can be hard to step back -- especially if there's a disagreement and especially if that person has held that position in the same company previously.

But that aside, what does it mean for Regent? Assuming Dakin (or anyone) is hired as DOS (and nothing more) ... things can get back to normal. They've been doing without a DOS for several months now. I'm sure it'll be a welcome relief for those who've had to pick up the slack left by the vacancy.

For the other clusters in the market, it can only be more of a problem than Regent already is to the competition. Having a DOS will allow things to run more smoothly inside the building, which should in turn make it easier for the reps to do better work outside the building.

However, if Dakin is being placed there by higher-ups who have further long-term intentions with his talents, anything is possible.

Yeah, Regent's got to find somebody willing to put up major dollars in an industry with a lot of uncertainty surrounding it. Besides, if you're out of work, you're looking for a paycheck NOW. Dakin's got enough of a track record that a new company could look at him as a potential GM anyway. Not a bad place to be.

I think it's a ballsy move on the part of the current GM, but I like it. As GM, your job is to get the best people you can to make your station or group successful. Dakin's job as DOS is to make the GM's job easier, and make her look better. It's a loser's mentality that prevents you from hiring the best. If you have confidence in your ability, you hire Dakin. That doesn't mean you don't keep an eye on him, and make sure you both understand each other. If you have the power to hire, you also have the power to fire.

I think you may be on to something. I see it as win-win for Regent. They have Dakin in place if for whatever reason they decide to remove Mary Joe Beach from her position. If not, then they hired a guy familiar with the company and someone who can run the ship like boy wonder did before he left for a warmer climate and a bigger paycheck.

I'm not so sure that this was her decision...I think this move came down from Regent corporate. It will be interesting to see what happens. I think there is probably some stability now on the inside being they have been without a DOS for so long. It will be interesting to see who has the most power with corporate at Regent. You know they are going to clash on some things at some point...it will be interesting to see if Dakin takes it.

Boy Wonder? Where does this come from? You make it sound like he ran around the office wearing a mask and tights...and that he was really running the show there. Did anyone outside of Regent even know who he was? I never heard who he was. From what you're saying, he should have been a name bandied about town.

Either way, you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about the whole thing, considering you merely "heard a rumor". Especially when flaming possible problems when the new guy has just gotten there, and stating it was a "corporate hire". HMMM...almost sounds like you know something.

Interesting perspective from above, and walking along the border.

What I heard Dakin is the "used car salesmen of radio". No great expectations there. But what do you expect from someone who has several jobs in only a few years, how good can he be. After all, the GM of Utica would never hire someone smarter than her, now would she!

Word ont the street the newest rep is Dakins room mate....what a tangled web we weave....it ought to be fun inside that building.
