Regent in Evansville

Wow! Numerous changes have been made at Regent lately. Do you really think DKS's new morning show will give STO"s morning show a run for their shares? I have noticed that as always STO's jocks like to talk and DKS total opposite. I dont think that too little talk, after all it is morning drive, will effect STO.
DKS's didnt have any substance, except weather and news. Come on! that is NOT CHR format. They will have to do A LOT better if they even think they want to put a dent in STO's ratings in morning drive. (just my opinion) But I do have to say that Holly is one HOT babe! and I am told that Max is something to look at too(info from female friends) As far as STO jocks, well....HANDS down Holly and MAx are the winners. But, looks dont make a show, right?
I did hear Kim on KDQ the other morning, has she taken Holly's mic?
So much change my head is spinning!!

I think you are spot on with a lot of what you say. I don't think anything DKS does at this point is going to touch STO. Face it, Max Power belongs on a rock station and not a CHR. What I've listened to, they have no clue who their target demographic is. They are all over the place and lack focus. Couple that with the fact that STO has turned it up a few notches in the past week and they are basically invincible at this point in the mornings, in my humble opinion. Whoever is behind the scenes is equally as strong as the jocks and I think that is helping them tremendously. They evoke confidence in their ability and face it - people want to be associated with a winner. However, I do think Holly could be great if she had a stronger partner. Unlike the the morning girl on STO, she knows when to stop and when to go. She's much more mature and appealing to the average 25 year old woman. But there's just no possible way they can compete with what STO has to offer. I feel they would have a better chance going Hot AC and trying to take listeners from WIKY.

And about the looks? What does that matter when you're in radio? Listeners want substance and entertainment, not hot jocks they never see.

Actually, I am not a part of SCRC, nor do I want to be at any point. I am simply stating the obvious. Anyone who listens to the show can tell that their morning jocks have refocused the past week. The preceding weeks sucked and I am betting the Man behind the scenes, meaning their program director, cracked down on them. Also, the Don Mattingly situation didn't sink them, Diane leaving didn't sink them - I honestly feel that they are invincible at this point. KDS has to step up their game like the original poster said.

Again, this is my opinion. I am sorry you felt the need to be rude or dismiss me as an employee/friend of SCRC. I have no affiliation with them, nor would I ever. I just feel that since KDS added a local morning show, STO has cranked it up as well. Should be interesting to follow. Best of luck to both crews!

No,Diane leaving did not sink the STO morning show. It was the best thing that could have happened. When Brad Booker was brought in to replace Jack(I can't remember his last name), you could tell immediately that he was in tune with
the 18-35 audience STO was trying to recapture from KDS. No offense, Jack and Diane tried their darndest but they couldn't relate to the audience. It didn't help that Booker and Diane didn't have ANY chemistry IMHO. She just wasn't tuned in to STO's demo. The next thing you know, Booker meets Sarah Pepper while eating at a restaurant and a short time later, she's the show's producer. Whenever I was in town, I noticed an instant rapport between Booker and Sarah. Seemed to me that Diane was left out in the cold. But it all worked out. Sarah is promoted to co-host on STO, giving the morning show a relatable female and Diane goes across the hall to #1 WIKY replacing Tammi Boyd. Diane sounds great on WIKY and she finally has an audience she can relate to. So it worked out for everybody.

Now we're going to have a great CHR morning show battle. This is gonna be good.

You bring up a great point about Diane leaving. I've often wondered about Diane's ability to identify with the key demo they are after. Thanks for clearing that up. Funny that you should mention Jack & Diane. Honestly, I don't remember them at all. I wonder what happened to him? I've not heard Diane on WIKY, so I can't comment on her there. I do know that she always managed to appeal to me as the 'mature' one of the group. You're right about the rapport between Booker & Sarah. It seems very brother/sister-like to me as a listener. They're very natural. Now, I'm going to have to listen to Diane on WIKY to see how she is over there.

I am with you - it should be a great battle but I honestly cannot see anyone taking Booker down when he is on the top of his game. But that's just me. Thanks for the information and perspective.

I agree that looks don't matter in radio, but I really don't get this alleged "substance and entertainment" that STO is supposedly providing. When I tune into Booker & Sarah, all I hear is Booker trying to act like he's 20 again and often trying to sound like he's from the ghetto, and Sarah obnoxiously laughing at EVERYTHING he says. Most of their material is no different than what all other morning shows are doing, and their delivery is average and often annoying. I don't understand why people talk about Booker as if he's the be-all and end-all of morning jocks. I've certainly heard worse, but face it...if Booker was as great as people make him out to be, would he really be working in a market like Evansville considering his age and experience?

I agree that Max Power would probably be better on a rock station, but he's not on a rock station so what's the point of speculating? He's just fine on DKS, and he should be a good compliment to Holly on the morning show. Give them some time to work out the kinks and carve their own niche, and they should be okay. They won't rival the numbers STO gets because Evansville is Bizarro World and bland-but-trying-to-be-cool acts like Booker & Sarah appeal to the masses, but they should be able to pull decent numbers and create their own identity. Rather than trying to take numbers from STO, they should try to create numbers of their own by actually *gasp* being different and unique. What a crazy concept in Evansville radio...
