Regular Guys are sued guys

From ****************:

Spanish WWVA-FM (Viva 105.7)/Atlanta morning hosts Juan "Yogi" Tapia and Jose "Panda" Carias are suing co-owned WKLS-FM (96Rock) morning hosts The Regular Guys (pictured Larry Wachs & Eric Von Haessler) and Clear Channel over an alleged bathroom stunt targeted against them. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Yogi & Panda are seeking unspecified punitive damages.

It all started on October 9 when, according to suit, Wachs, entered a bathroom at the offices of Clear Channel and recorded a conversation between Yogi and Panda. The duo were in individual stalls and unaware of the recording. Wachs allegedly recorded their conversation and certain "offensive sounds while they were utilizing the facilities," the lawsuit said. The Regular Guys then aired the recording on their show October 10.

Additionally, the lawsuit said they The Regular Guys made "harassing statements regarding the race and sexual orientation" of Yogi and Panda. It also noted that Wachs & Von Haessler had made offensive comments about the duo in the past, but "these complaints have largely been ignored by the management of Clear Channel."

VP/Market Manager Chuck Deskins declined to comment to the newspaper, only to say it was "an internal issue." 96Rock is currently running "best-of" shows for the Regular Guys, who've been off the air since Tuesday. (10-20-06)

I know that CC is just thrilled to have one group of folks in their organization sue another group as well as suing CC. It seems to me that this could have been solved behind closed doors.

Once CC figures a way to get rid of Yogi and Panda (considering contractual oblations) do these guys have a future life in radio? Knowing their history, I certainly would not want this kind of liability in a future employee.

I think you're on to something. I call shenanigans on this one. I think Yogi and Panda are playing with fire. Sounds like they just want something and are trying to create confusion and intimidation to get it. The longer this goes, the better for the RGs, I think. It's so over the top, and the underlying claims are weak.
It just doesn't make sense to me, though? Why sue your own employer if this is legit? A company as big and defensive and politically correct as Clear Channel would not let real claims of harrassment go ignored. My god, they are nothing if not tight in the sphincter muscle. How do you even put on a Spanish language station in this day and age without doubly strict scrutiny when hiring? Absent the recording issue, all that's left is the claim that TRG were making comments "on the air." Isn't that protected speech? They make harsh remarks about Tom Hughes and Denny Shaffer, too. They're not suing. Neither is Cynthia McKinney, whom I don't like, but was the subject of some of the cruelest, racist humor from them. I can see if it they said stuff about Phil and Dan in sales, but come on!!!! Yogi and Panda are on radio, too. Their public figures. Get over yourselves, babies. As far as the recording in the bathroom, I don't know...sounds like Wachs stepped in it here. did anyone hear this on the air? How did it go down? Who was in the bathroom first?

I think it's time to cut losses with the RGs. They are too much trouble, too much drama, not enough ratings and boring as hell without SSS and the old push the limits humor. 96 Rock should start fresh with a new morning show. It is time.

whoever yogi and panda are - they should be released immediately regardless of who is at fault. To sue co-workers and the company you work for is inexcusable in any profession. Is this the first job they ever had?

Credit to larry for at least trying to pull the show out of the milk toast by literally going to bathroom humor.

Remember what happened when they cut them loose last time? Yeah.

Yeah, that would be smart since they are the top morning show in the cluster. And SSS is back on the show. And there are no shows out there. See 99X.
