Regular Guys Fired Again

Who is Chuck Deskins (mentioned in the article via link above)? Normally names of CC people are mentioned here but I've not heard this one. Guess he'll be posting here soon...

He took over when Jerry Del Core was fired. He's from CC/Tampa. I figured he would have thrown Bloomquist out of the Building of Death first, but it seems that this new guy will put the final nail in the coffin of CC/Atlanta.

Wow, I'm loving all the goings-on in Atlanta radio over the past week!

As far as this particular issue, I think it was stupid and not funny in terms of content on the part of the Regular Guys, and I guess it may have been technically illegal, but IMO Yogi and Panda need to get the hell over it. It's not like RG doesn't make fun of everyone, and it wasn't even that funny that most people were having a laugh at their expense. Plus, what listener overlap do 96Rock and Viva have that anyone would have noticed? While the stunt itself was lame on RG's part, this mess just makes the Viva morning show look ridiculous.

I just love how pathetic radio people are becoming. Instead of handling things themselves and getting even with one another they resort to suing each other. Thanks Barnes for setting this precedence of patheticness...and please don't sue me for saying that.

Bottom LINE...
How did a jockless and poor excuse for a radio station RIVER (playing about 100 songs over and over) BEAT soundly a Great Heritage radio station like KLS...cmon, this SHOULDNT be happening for ANY reason. These two goofs should have quit when the spring book came out - and the RIVER had kicked them in the perverabial @#$....Sad Sad Sad...you telling me theres not a programmer in CCU that can beat a terrible jukebox like 97.1 with NOW two terrible not well known jocks...

People at COX are laughing pretty hard I would imagine.

Here is the report from Radio On-line this afternoon:

Clear Channel has reportedly fired WKLS-FM (96Rock) morning hosts The Regular Guys (Larry Wachs & Eric Von Haessler) after co-owned Spanish WWVA-FM (Viva 105.7)/Atlanta wakeup personalities Juan "Yogi" Tapia and Jose "Panda" Carias filed suit against them over a recorded bathroom stunt that allegedly aired on 96Rock.

The ordeal started on October 9 when, according to suit, Wachs, entered a bathroom at the offices of Clear Channel and recorded a conversation between Yogi and Panda. The duo were in individual stalls and unaware of the recording. Wachs allegedly recorded their conversation and certain "offensive sounds while they were utilizing the facilities," the lawsuit said. The Regular Guys then aired the recording on their show October 10.

Additionally, the lawsuit said they The Regular Guys made "harassing statements regarding the race and sexual orientation" of Yogi and Panda. It also noted that Wachs & Von Haessler had made offensive comments about the duo in the past, but "these complaints have largely been ignored by the management of Clear Channel."

96Rock middayer Fin will handle mornings during the interim. (10-23-06)

In the post-Janet Jackson era, it seems you can't do a morning show targeting 18-34 men without getting fined, sued, arrested, or all three.

Is morning terrestrial radio for 18-34 males an extinct species? This is the "Jackass" generation, after all, and if you can't program at their level, you can't program to them at all.

Unbelievable that they are off the air over this. How vicious must Yogurt and Pansy be to actual want these guys to get fired. They should watch their backs. Maybe they should bring Rhodes and SSS back. If this new guy is out of Tampa I hope he is not planning a MJ simulcast?

Leslie better not screws this one up. 99x is being served up an opportunity to grab some ratings. Both Dave and 96 rock in effect are without morning shows for the foreseeable future. Whose that leave among their competitors. Whip. Whoopee. He's not really much competition against a real morning show which Axel and Leslie was not.

This is so typical ! ! ! Give the Spanish population a inch, A Radio Station, They will take a mile, or everything if the cards are right. Why do we continue to give to this culture the way we do? Im so sick and tired of this ! Please someone rescue us from Viva 105.3 La sicka 102.3, La stinkarita 610 and all of the rest of this mexican hoopla.. Please? All we want is this crap off the air !!!!!This is only one opinion and Im allowed it ! This has to come to an end !!!!

HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!!

WEll, wait a minute, i dont think it has much to do with their being hispanic, because if you think a WHITE team were on the receiving end of being allegedly bashed for being gay, they would be in court even faster if they felt CC management had not done anything about it, I know it's the south and all but let's not lose touch with reality!. Regular guys were idiots to go that route especially with a clustermate, period. Anyone trying to blame the "victims" for regular guys stupidity is an idiot. Was it a fireable offense? not in our minds but then again we're not the market manager who would have to:

A. Deal with acrimony in the cluster during duringa time when morale is at an all time low in most radio clusters tobegin with

B. A possible law suit from talent who felt their concerns were not being taken seriously from management.

Regular guys stepped on their d*cks, period. Is it lame to sue a clustermate? OF COURSE, but then again it's none of us on the receiving end of the BS from the supposed teammates now is it?.

Dont blame anyone but the regulr guys, they provem themselves to be the hacks that others accuse them of being for this stupid stunt alone.

once again corperate radio strikes.this was a stupid little radio prank and now its gotten out of hand.maybe clearchannel can just fire everyone of their on air people and just play the same music on every channel since its obvious that they know nothing about programming.i left bloomie and deskins a voicemail but i doubt they will care as i am only a 25+year listener to 96rock.but not anymore ill go back to stern and my sirius.im sorry i am ranting here but this is rediculouse the way this was handled.

I’ll miss TRG show and the Mad Pundit. I hope they have the opportunity to re-emerge on another outlet very soon.

Both sides of this issue are wrong. Wachs was wrong to air the recording, but Y&P were equally as wrong in their response. If there is one adult workplace where high school pranks are acceptable and expected it is morning radio. Would Wachs have taken legal action if the situation were reversed? No, but I’ll bet his response would have been highly entertaining.

Personally, I think that two grown hombres who go to the bathroom together each day and giggle like little muchachas while doing their business is a little on the creepy side, but to each his own.

"We don't need no stinkin badges!"

well, now we know what makes the badges stink :D

Re: HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!!

Once again, TRG really has only themselves to blame for their demise.

I happen to think Yogi & Boo Boo overreacted, but that doesn't remove TRG's responsibility for creating the situation in the first place.

I'm not someone who would act with violence, but do Ying and Yang realize just how many enemies they've made in this city? Enemies who might act with violence? TRG had many rabid, nearly fanatical, listeners who won't take this lightly.

Man, some of the posts on this thread are kind of scary. The person screaming about "giving the hispanics a radio station," and this last guy, who is implying violence toward the Viva team? People, it's just a radio show. Get a grip on yourselves.

The Regular Guys were fired because they screwed up. Again. You have to use at least a small amount of common sense when you are broadcasting at 100,000 watts, and these two don't seem to use that sense nearly enough. Blaming the people that were effected in a negative manner by their (The Regular Guys') poor judgment is a cop-out. In the end, Larry and Eric need to take responsibilty for exercising poor judgement.

I take it you're partially illiterate. I'm not imply violence toward anyone. What I said was a "what if" scenario. I'm not suggesting violence, but wondering if there are people out there who would act with violence based on CC's decision in favor of Yippie and Blippie.
